For those of you that have babies already or those of you with a strong a opinion on the subject, I`m curious what will prove more vital with an infant--a a simple bouncer like the BabyBjorn sitter that the baby (or mom) has to move themselves (no lights, bells, whistles, mirrors etc--what, my kid should exist in some sort of perpetual theme park?) Or a swing? I didn`t register for a swing because they are huge, kinda ugly and they all make noise and require batteries. I`m just curious what other people are getting. I`m sure it depends on the temperament of the baby to some degree in terms of what ends up being the most useful.

We got the infant to toddler rocking chair. It has a vibrator on it too and some toys for when baby hits 2 months or so. Before that, they don't need all that stimulation. The rocking chair has the benefit of baby not growing out of it- like a bouncy chair will. I loved having the chair to put him in while i made myself breakfast, had a shower, went to the bathroom etc. I think it will depend on your child. Get the chair first and if you find your kid is not soothed by the vibrator, then you might want to get a swing. I do agree that too much stimulation can be harmful. THey should be able to get much entertainment from you or other activities in the house. THe toys on the rocker were good too- my 6 month old son still loves them and he gets bored easily when it comes to toys.

My son loved the vibrating feature in his bouncy seat and actually we had a bassinet that had it too and that was the one thing that would put him to sleep almost instantly. I guess it's similiar to the movement in utero? We had a swing and I used to use it for naps when my son was little because it was the only way he would stay asleep for any length of time without me holding him. He is 9 months now and goes to bed completely on his own for naps and bedtime without tears so it didn't harm him in any way. I would say that you'll definitely want some kind of bouncy seat for your little one to sit in so that he/she can watch what's going on while they're awake without being held 24/7. We used ours for meals and for when I wanted to get stuff done.

My kids loved the swing. One of my daughters was hard to put to sleep but fell asleep quick in the swing. I had a bouncer for my youngest and she didnt really use it much. I think she got bored of it idk. With this baby I have a swing and I probably wont use a bouncer. I think the swings are pretty good since the babys like to be rocked.

It will all depend on the baby. My daughter was extremely fussy day and night, and the swing gave me about 20 mins of relief. She constantly wanted to be in motion. The minute you stopped moving, she would scream (for hours if you let her). It was a nighmare. The music does not need to be on with the swing, and it can be put in a corner somewhere. I used mine every day, and I only changed the batteries once in 8 months. If cost is an issue, just get the bouncy chair, then if you get a baby like mine, go spend the extra money so you can have a couple minutes of peace.

I have always rocked my baby to sleep in a rocking chair or glider so I can see how a swing might be beneficial for a baby who really likes to be rocked or a mom who is too tired to rock a baby? As far as the music and lights and mobiles, I really don't like any of those too much. I like to sing to my baby or stimulate him/her by personal interaction like one on one face time play. I guess each mother has her own opinion but I only had a bouncer and have a bouncer for this one as well.

I think a bouncer is fine!!!!! They have been great for all my 6 so far and that's all I'll have for number 7. Their own movements make it move slightly anyway but not in a hectic fashion. I am a big ANTI-FAN of the Jolly jumper. I worry about the addling of the baby's brain. AND I agree with you about the swing. big, bulky, noisy and continual cost with batteries. It creates a child that requires constant outside noise stimulation when there are times in their growth that they need to "hear" the quite. The temperament of the child is something BUT some of that temperament will depend on WHAT you use and what the baby will subsequently get used to and expect. Remember, they don't know any different. That's my 2 bobs worth any way :-)

I think it all depends on your baby. I have a swing, bouncer, infant to toddler chair, jolly jumper, and an excersauser. My little guy is 8 months, still loves his swing. liked his jolly jumper from about 4-5 months.(hates it now) The infant chair and bouncer was great from birth until about 4 months. From about 4 1/2 months he wanted to climb outta the bouncy chair. My opinon is either both, or a swing, but make sure to get a bigger one, not the ones that are close to the ground. Because they tend to outgrow them really fast, plus once they reach about 7 or so months , they can stop them with they're feet. (some babies at least)

I have both. My swing is a 3 in one, its a swing, baby seat, and turns into a toddler chair and holds up to 40pounds. I also have a bouncer. im going to use them both and see what one the baby likes best. My swing was 120$, where my bouncer was only 30$. I figured i could never have enough stuff, i can always leave stuff at the grandparents house etcc., instead of ALWAYS having to bring a whole bunch of stuff. Also, babies usualy like the sounds that swings and toys make. They require batteries but if the noise bothers you you dont have to turn it on.
