so i had the BIG ultrasound today. i am just wondering if it has been other peoples` experience not to be told the results right away? the tech did say she didn`t see anything suspicious but the doc had to read them and then fax the results to my ob. i don`t see my ob again for 2 weeks-ughh more waiting. i guess i just thought i would`ve found out more about if the baby is healthy and normal. would they have told me if something did look wrong? oh by the way.....its a girl!!!!!!

Allioop - 121 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Yes, it is normal practice for the tech not to tell you the results. They're actually not allowed to tell you because they are not trained in reading the results although most of them probably could. I had an ultrasound where the baby's heart rate was only 50 bpm. She told me about the heart rate but wouldn't tell me what it meant. I had to wait to see the Dr. afterwards to hear that it meant miscarriage was inevitable. Now I see a fetal medicine specialist for ultrasounds--she's a Dr. so she tells me exactly what she's seeing while she's doing it! It's GREAT!

At my next appt after that 2nd one, the nurse told me that they got a good look and the spine looks fine. But I think sometimes you just have to ask them up front. You'd think they would understand that as a mother, you want to know EVERYTHING possible about your growing baby! Good luck and I hope everything is fine!

professorpreggers - 122 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Congratulations on your baby girl! This sounds normal to me--especially when you go to another facility to get the scans done that is not your own doctor's office. The doctor at the place I go to reads the scan, then sends an emailed report to my Dr with any findings and recommendations. My Dr only calls me about the scan or any test results if something is wrong. I think this is standard procedure. Techs really aren't supposed to say anything to you about anything--it could get them in deep doodoo. In fact, they are so tightlipped at the place I go to that I try to read any facial expressions which usually gets me all worked up about nothing. I’ve learned to position myself so I can read their notes as they pull up my file on their laptops at the beginning of the scan. That’s how I found out at a follow up ultrasound that everything was ok with the baby, my cervix, etc. I also research measurements etc for whatever gestational week the baby has reached before the scan so I can compare as the tech does the scan. I knew the nuchal translucency was normal based on knowing the measurement range long before my Dr ever gave me the results back. It normally only takes a couple days for your Dr's office to receive any labs or tests, so you can probably call and ask about your results before your appointment. I don't think you should worry!

mariettap - 122 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Some radiology offices just have a more tight-lipped policy. The one I have been to the tech actually says more than she should (and is sometimes wrong), and the doc _always_ comes in afterward and interprets the findings. But some sites don't have the staffing for that, so they tell the tech to shut up before she says something wrong (wish mine would have!). But if they find something wrong, your doc would call you, not make you wait 2 weeks. Plus, you could always call your doc's office and ask them to fill you in on the findings by phone. Many docs these days have a policy to call only if results are abnormal.

Heaven - 122 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) i think if the tech had any clue that there could possibly be something wrong. the doctor would tell you that same visit. the tech isnt a doctor but if he/she is confused about something he/she has to confirm with the doctor first. my daughter has a hole in her heart and the tech didnt mention it at all during the ultrasound then she said to wait for the doctor and i knew something was wrong. he came in and infromed me of the hole. but my daughter is fine now so no worries

Debra - 122 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) as long as you saw baby moving, then assume nothing is wrong. If something were wrong, your partner would not be let into the room and the tech would get quiet and not talk to you alot about what they were seeing. If they took measurements and were chatty, then i'm sure everything was fine.

preciousprincess - 122 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) if something was wrong they would have let you know right then and there and plus your doctor would have called you and let you know everything fine stop worrying(smile) congrats on the baby girl do you have any names.
