What is a membrane sweep, and what is it supposed to do?

They attempt to seperate the placenta from the uterine wall, causing contractions, and dilation, and so forth. It is not always effective. I had it done 3 times a week for a couple of weeks, and I still had to be induced. But, it is a good alternative to induction, as there is not any medication involved. Ps, you may spot afterwards, which is normal. Good luck!

A membrane sweep is a painless way to jump start labor, your caregiver either take a finger or a Q-tips and swipe around your cervix and move the placenta off of it a little which make your body release oxitocin the hormone that start labor. I had it done and delivered 9 hours later.
