I am 7 weeks pregnant when going from the 1st day of last period and I had an ultrasound and can see the sac and the baby, but no heartbeat yet. I had my hcg levels tested on that day which was a Monday. they were 22000. Then on Wed they were 26000. The dr told me that more than likely I will miscarry because my hcg levels are not doubling, and because they are so high, he should have been able to see more in the ultrasound. He told me to schedule a d&c. I was devastated. So thursday I went to another dr and had an ultrasound and now the baby has a heartbeat and this dr thinks everything is ok, he wants me to come in weekly for an ultrasound. Is it normal for my levels to be so high? Has anyone ever experienced this before?

at 5 weeks we could only see a sac and at 8 weeks we could see the heart beat. The u/s tech at 5 weeks was mentioning the word 'eptopic' pregnancy to me and i freaked and told her not to mention that kind of stuff unless you are 100% sure. I'd tell the first doc "your fired!" which is why i had a midwife who i loved. Please stop by my VIP site for tips on pregnancy/labor and other things you should know but no one tells you.

OMG!- Thank god you got a second opinion! Although you must be thrilled to bits that everything is looking good,I would be making a huge complaint about your doctor!- Having a weekly u/s is good. At least you have the reassurance of being closely monitored.

(()) SO glad you got a second opinion ~ I hope you plan to stay with the new doc, I think it was very hasty for htat doc to assume miscarry without at least giving it a few more weeks to confirm ~ I hope you dont plan to see him again ~

What a blessing for a second opinion!!! Congrats. Here is what I found on americanpregnancy.org - 7 - 8 weeks LMP: 7, 650 - 229,000 mIU/ml
So seems to me you are "normal."

I dont really know much about the numbers but on a chart I have here that I got from the hospital it says at 7-8 weeks it should be between 16,000-200,000. So Im guessing its normal.
