Colostrum question

Quick question for the seasoned mommies: I`m almost 36 weeks pregnant and have started leaking a little bit when I squeeze my nipples. Normal, I know. But the thing is my `milk` seems to be really separated. What I mean is, I`ll get one little dot of colostrum and about twice as much clear fluid coming from a different hole in the nipple ... make sense? Is it normal for it to be separated like this?

Debra - 112 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Thats normal and its all colostrum. It may have been sitting a little longer, thats all. Rub the colostrum into your nipples every day. It will help to condition them for breastfeeding. I'm an RN and have taught breastfeeding in the past and am breastfeeding my 7 month old still. Never had any problems- but i wrote down everything my midwife told me about getting breastfeeding started and things i've found out myself over the past months- as well as supplements to your diet you should consider taking while nursing to help you from getting yeast infections or have other infection problems. Its all on my VIP site, please stop by and read it when you have time! Good luck and feel free to message me if you have ANY questions when you get started nursing!!

Spike - 112 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I used to get that too, i asked my dr and he told me was that it was perfectly normal and due to some milk ducts making less actual milk, and simply releasing water. hope that helps

jessicanewmom2be - 112 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) completly u have nothing to worry about u have many many milk ducts and there all producing healthy

kater - 113 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) yep, completely normal!! as your milk comes in after birth, if you express, you may find that its kind of yellowy in the beginning too. breastfeeding is a weird and wonderful thing

moms the word - 113 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Totally normal. Some women have whiter milk than others. My colostrum is kind of yellowish somedays and whiter on other days. My doc said it is totally normal. I wouldn't worry about it. The clearer fluid is normal too. You'll find that when your milk comes in after birth, it can be clearer like really watered down skim milk or so white that you cannot see through it. It all depends on what you are eating, how much water you are drinking etc. Sounds ok to me. If you are overly concerned, then talk to your OB at your next appt. Good luck I think you are just fine.
