Generally, I'd say one...at 20 weeks, they assess the babies size, gender and make sure all the organs are there and working. I had two because in the first one, they couldn't get a good look at the spine. They were able to get better pictures of it the second time around. But if there are complications they'll usually order more than one. My best friend's baby had a 2 vessel chord as opposed to a 3 vessel cord so they monitered the babies growth through several ultrasounds.

as few as possible. You only really NEED one at 20 weeks or so. There is currently thought that too many U/S can damage your baby, so avoid them unless your doctor feels they are medically neccessary. Otherwise, some docs like sending women for them as they get paid extra for this. So if you live in the US, you get a lot if you have good insurance. If you live in Canada, you get one at 20 weeks or another earlier or later depending on how critical it is. Personally I had one at 5 weeks to date the pregnancy and another at 8 weeks as the one at 5 weeks was not clear. Then my standard one at 20 weeks and one during labor as it was suddenly discovered that baby was breech and it was used to confirm this position.

It depends on how many your insurance plan will pay for. My insurance will only pay for 2, unless more are medically necessary (complications, bleeding, big for your dates, small for your dates, etc.) The first one is around 10-12 wks for 'viability' and the second at 20 wks.

Only one here at about 18 weeks unless concerns about date or other complications.

Two unless you are having complication during pregnancy. It's really up to your doctor and what your insurance company is willing to pay for.

an early one to date the gestation if your unsure of you last period, 10 -14 weeks for the nuchal translucency scan (cheacks for down syndrom and major defects) 18 - 20 weeks for morphology (detailed scan of all internal organs esspecially the heat and brain, also cheaks for cleft plate of lip, skelital abnomalities, placental health and position and if requested the sex of the baby) and finaly 34- 36 weeks cheack up scan to make sure that everything is good and the estimated weight of baby and circumfence of the skull in order to assure it will fit through the pelvis and into the birth canal.
if you are considered hig risk you will have more, if you have twins or more you will have more, if any scan shows somthing questionable you will have more, but thease are the basic 3.

It depends on several factors. Insurance companies willingness to pay for them, doctor deeming them necessary, whether or not you are considered high risk or not. I am high risk due to high blood pressure so I have one every time I go. When I was pregnant with my first, I had one about 11 weeks in the ER since I was bleeding and they wanted to make sure the baby was ok and then the standard one at 20 weeks where they can tell you what the gender is. Hope that helps.

It depends on your doctor and insurance. Alot of the times they only do 1 ultrasound at around 20wks and thats it. Some doctors do them early on if you're not sure about your lmp. Also if you are considered high risk then you will get more than one. In the beginning of this pregnancy I got a few of them because my doctor had a machine in his office. I had to switch doctors so I just got 1 when I switch to her and now she considers me high risk and I go often.

It depends really on your dr. Some may make you wait and only have one at 18-20 weeks. or you may get lucky and have a dr with a machine in their office that will do a couple throughout your pregnancy.
