I wanted to get some feedback from you girls...Has anyone seen The Business of Being Born with Ricki Lake?? Apparently she is in trouble...What`s your take on things? I am going to have a hospital birth but I found her documentary VERY informative and I will certainly take some of it into account when I write my birth plan. I just wanted to know what you think about this recent news video. Its short :) http://cosmos.bcst.yahoo.com/up/player/popup/?rn=3906861&cl=8393770&ch=4226723&src=news

moms the word - 102 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Unfortunately for me, I will not be able to have a home birth due to the fact that I will likely be having a repeat cesarean due to my already high risk status so they can monitor me very closely. It sucks cause I really wanted to have a natural delivery with my first but it didn't turn out that way so now it is less likely to happen for this pregnancy as well. Be glad you are in a position to have that choice. I think its your baby, your body so research for yourself and do what you think is best for your birth.

summerisis - 102 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I saw the movie and felt inspired and had more faith in my body. If I were younger I would have had home birth. I can't get the news clip to air but I don't trust FOX news anyway and I'm not surprised that the medical establishment has an issue with an alternate viewpoint. I'm glad someone questioned the status quo and people are talking about labor and delivery. I am ashamed to say that I spent way more time researching my cell phone and camera than I did researching my doctor.

mdbabyno1 - 102 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I thought the movie was very interesting and inspiring. I am personally having the baby at the hospital but I am more inspired to do it naturally.

Debra - 102 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I was low risk. I had a midwife and i will always have a midwife. I chose to have a hospital birth with my midwife. We kept everything natural. I used only Gas for pain control. I read the best book ever and its techniques took me through the pain- "Ina May's Guide to Childbirth". We waited and waited for my water to break naturally. When I was 10 cm I finally asked my midwife to go ahead and do it already. Meconium kept pouring out. Her check revealed a breech position. Not head down (vertex) as had been at all my appointments since week 26. The pediatrician and obstetrician came in. He spoke to me that persuing a breech delivery with that much meconium would be entirely unsafe. I knew it as well. If my baby were to breathe that in on the way out- which was highly likely given how much there was- he would have ended up in the NICU. I followed his advice and proceeded with an emergency c/s. I would have carried on if it had been safe and it wasn't. I knew it. I the advocate for natural births knew it wasn't possible. You can't know what is going to happen. If I had been at home, who knows. I might have killed my baby trying to birth him vaginally. I'm glad I labored at home. I went to the hospital when I felt I needed the support of the gas to help with the pain. I'm glad I chose a hospital birth. I'm very glad I stayed as natural as possible and had a midwife. When it comes time to have my second, I will be in the hospital again with my midwife.

gr8scottswife - 102 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I am having a home birth and could not be more excited about it. I have a competent midwife with whom I feel comfortable and with whomI am able to talk. Furthermore, I think I would be overwhelmed coming home from the hospital because I know my messy stepchildren and husband, and I would just break down into tears and then throw a fit if I walked into a mess. At least being at home, I know how the house is and what it is going to be. Furthermore, I want to be free to walk around, change positions, watch dvds, and basically do whatever I want when I want and have no worries. You can see my page under midwife for more information about homebirth and why I feel confident about doing it. By the way, my midwife only accepts low-risk women. I am low-risk. That plays a factor, too.

dvsrunt - 102 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I am high risk. Have been with all my kids. I couldn't imagine doing it at home unless it was so kind of crazy emergency! I just wouldnt know what to do if something were to happen and it could have been prevented if I were at a hospital. But that's just me!! I'm sure plenty of women do it everyday with no issues.
