first off, I went to the doctor a month ago, He told me that I was about 5 weeks pregnant. I didnt receive a ultrasound or they didnt even listen for a heartbeat. I just figured that maybe it was because it was so early in my pregnancy. I go tomorrow for only my second appointment. I have read alot of blogs and wuestions on here, and what I would like to know is is this Normal? because I am 9 weeks pregnant and I havent had any type of proof my baby even exsist besides extreme lack of energy.

jessicahedden - 100 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I had an internal u/s done at my first appointment, I was about 7 weeks. I had another u/s at my second appointment at about week 10. I had a few more u/s's after that. There were no complications in my pregnancy. I loved having all of the u/s's. Any chance to see her made me smile.

Spike - 101 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) yes its normal. a scan can be performed if you request it for dating purposes, otherwise one should deffinatly be done between 10 and 14 weeks to cheack the nuchal translucentcy (cheacks for down syndrom) a blood test is useualy part of the nt screening as well. you should have had blood taken for a compleate work up at this second appointmetn too. if thease test have not been don see another dr as the NT scan needs to be done before 14 weeks to be acurate! 12 weeks is the ideal time to do it however.

dansbabymama - 101 days ago Thank you for all your responses. everything went great today at my appointment he said all my blood work came back normal and my pregnancy is all normal. I am scheduled for my first ultrasound in 3 weeks. Also, when I said no proof, I meant like no heartbeat or ultrasound. I guess I am getting alittle ahead of myself because of all the excitement. Thank you again.

kater - 101 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) i went to my doctor at 5 weeks, they took a urine pregnancy test, then sent me for blood tests. my next appointment was at 8 weeks, where they gave me the results of the blood tests, then referred me to have a scan at 11 weeks-nucal translucency. then at 12 weeks a doctors appointment to see the result of the scan and general check, then at 16 weeks i went to the hospital for my appointment, where they took family history's, and my medical history, did a health check on me and listened for the heartbeat. i also decided on what model of care i wanted- i chose to continue seeing my gp for my regular appointments, as i am low risk and i love my doc! 18 weeks, was the normal appointment where they check BP, bubs heartbeat and talk about any concerns and referred me to the 20 week anomaly scan. 24 weeks, another normal appointment (i had another scan here to check up on some things found on the 20 week scan, but this isnt usual) to check bubs heartbeat my BP and another lot of blood tests. 28 weeks-the beginning of fortnightly appointments, to do the normal checks as i have mentioned, 30 weeks, same, 32 weeks same, 34 weeks same, 36 weeks go to see obstetrician, have usual check, discuss labor plans, and thats where im up to, but i expect weekly visits from now on until the birth. mine is a low risk pregnancy, so it will be different if they find any problems, but you will have enough doctors visits during the pregnancy, dont wish yourself in their office!!-----my doc doesn't like to listen for bubs heartbeat until 12-16 weeks because its really hard to find and it worry s the mothers terribly when they cant find it.

jessicanewmom2be - 101 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) ok did they do blood to confirm ur pregnancy?not only that there is many things that they do .do when were pregnant test urine touch ur belly to see where ur uterus is placed pap etc....usaully u will most likely get ur first ultra sound between 10-14 weeks so be patient and hope for the best

dawnispregz - 101 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) yeah its fine dont worry, a midwife will do your 'booking in' as prev people have said, this is where she takes your BP, medical history and the fathers medical history.(Father preferably available to answer any questions needed) You'll go for a scan- which is a confirmation scan. Between 10-13 weeks to see if the pregnant is still viable and all is good, - you'll need a couple of hours off from work as you'll get urine and blood test (get used to them!) and midwifes and consultants will take you through general info you need to know. You'll get a 2nd scan approx 20 weeks to check the 4 chambers of the heart, spine, brain and lungs. At this scan you can find out your babys sex(if the hospital allows this). You'll hear the heartbeat at this point and see it pumping away! Before the 2nd scan an antenatal appt is made just as a general check up and to do your triple test if you choose to have this done, You also get to hear the heartbeat here too. Any more question then you can just message me if you want. Congrats on your pregnancy. Oh and dont forget to take your Folic Acid - very essential as that helps against spina bifida up till 12 weeks and take your vitamins. Pregnacare gives you all of it in one pill. x x x

lulu22 - 101 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Sounds normal to me, I did not get a scan until around 8 weeks just to estimate the fetal age and see exactly how many weeks I was. I think my Dr. did this because my cycle was always very irregular so estimating the fetal age from my last menstrual cycle wasnt really the best way. However, my first visit with him after taking a positive at home test only consisted of an internal exam and a lot of bloodwork! GOOD LUCK AT YOUR NEXT VISIT!!!

sibandtwins - 101 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) hiya! id say it is normal. i had a scan at 6 weeks but only bcos i was REALLY worried. then i has my "booking in" with my midwife at 10weeks. she will then refer u for a u/s at about 12weeks. thats the first time you will see ur baby and see the heartbeat. i didnt get to hear my babies heartbeats unitl 16weeks (they say they cant pick them up, as the baby is so small). i hiope this helps. be assured u WILL get a scan very soon to check your dates. x x xx

Alethea - 101 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I felt the same until i got my dating scan at 13 weeks and i never got to hear my babys heartbeat until i was 16 weeks. Then i got my anomaly scan at 20 weeks. Dont worry! Congratulations:-)

karenc - 101 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) normally docs wait until after at least 10 weeks to do any kinds of scans - the babies are too tiny before then.

skittles0607 - 101 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) They normally wait till about 8 weeks before an ultrasound and heartbeat. You cant really hear the heartbeat that early. My dr doesnt even see her patients until 2 missed periods but on my 9th week I had an vaginal ultrasound and I could see the heart beating. I couldnt hear though because it was early. Good Luck.. Your baby is just fine!!

summerisis - 102 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I told my doctor that I thought I was pregnant at 5 weeks because I had taken a home pregnancy test. I went to an appointment at 7 weeks and she wasn't expecting to see the heartbeat or anything. She did a vaginal U/S and was surprised to see anything. The pregnancy was confirmed via a urine test but that's all... so you case is very similar to mine. I don't think that you have anything to worry about. When you say "proof" do you mean symptoms? I assume that they did give a pregnancy test though, right?

Debra - 102 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) we got a doppler heart rate at 13 weeks but my midwife said this was quite rare to hear it that early. Otherwise you should have had a blood draw and doc to have a look at your increasing hormone HCG levels. And a urine preg test as well. I had a few u/s only to date the pregnancy as I was unsure due to some unusual period activity. Otherwise, they don't usually do a u/s until about week 20 unless something is out of the ordinary.

moms the word - 102 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) So, you haven't had a pregnancy test? They didn't do one at the doctors office to confirm pregnancy? You cannot have a positive pregnancy test without pregnancy hormone and that only happens when you are pregnant. At five weeks, there is not enough heartbeat to be heard yet(your baby is the size of a grain of rice). Tomorrow, you still won't be able to hear a heartbeat yet(unless the doctor does an internal ultrasound that is equipped with a microphone to hear a heartbeat, many doctors don't have that equipment, mine doesn't). Fetal heartbeat is not detectable on an external fetal doppler until the twelve week mark and sometimes not even then if the baby is positioned behind the pelvic bone or very low in the pelvis. With my first baby, they did not do and ultrasound until my 15th week and that was because I was bleeding and went to the Emergency Room. They did ultrasound to check for tears in the placenta or signs of miscarriage. The only ultrasound I got at my doctor's office was at twenty weeks to do the standard measurements and check for gender if I wanted to know. With this baby, I am high risk due to high blood pressure and a previous cesarean delivery with my first. I have an ultrasound at every visit but I still haven't heard the heartbeat yet. I have seen it four times, but never heard it yet. I am 15 weeks pregnant. Just ask your doctor tomorrow what the standard routine is for prenatal care at that particular office. I know you are concerned, but you are pregnant regardless of wether or not you have seen or heard a baby yet. Remember how small he/she is at this point and that is why you haven't seen or heard from this kid yet. It will be ok. I remember being very anxious about my first pregnancy too. It all depends on your doctor and what your insurance covers. I don't mean to sound like I am talking down to you and I appologize if it comes off like that. I am just trying to help you understand why things are happening to the best of my ability. Don't be afraid to ask the doctor any questions, they are only stupid if you don't ask them. This is your baby and your body, ask questions, be pushy! After all, you are paying him/her so you are the "boss" of your care. If you are really unhappy with the quality of your care, then find another doctor. It is easy to forget that these doctors see many women every day and that even though this pregnancy is special and important to you, it is not so special to them. Congratualtions! Everything will be fine just eat healthy, take your vitamins and get plenty of water to drink.

Amanda.M - 102 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I've had 4 children and only one of them i had an early u/s at 6wk then at 8wks only coz i had a m/c some time before, with the others i went to the docs to confirm the preg by urine test then didnt get seen again till i was 3mths pregnant at the hospital and had a duedate scan.
