i'm not going through the same right at the moment but i DO remember my husband being very happy when breastfeeding was over. he never asked for me to stop though. i usually just dried up on my own. could you switch to pumping & bottle feeding so that you can still use your milk? surely that wouldn't freak him out?? it could be the compromise that saves your relationship woes??? just an idea... good luck!

I plan to breastfeed until my child is about one year old. Cant see why your hubby would think its weird as its the most beautiful natural thing that a mother can do for her child.I appreciate that it may look a little weirder as your baby is putting on weight and my not seem so dainty now nearly 8 months old but people generally breastfeed till 1 yr old,its cheaper, more convenient, always accessible, and gives exactly the right minerals/vitamins/goodness that your child needs, and none goes to waste like formula can. Thought he would have been happy that he doesnt have to get up in the middle of the night to feed her! I appreciate that things should be done 50/50 when a child is involved but if my bloke got weird about it id tell him to shut up and thats the way it is. Good luck x x x

Breast feed until one year man! That way you can go straight to homo milk and not have to waste a fortune on formula. Your husband can get over it. Breastfeeding no matter how old is the best thing you can do

there are so many health benefits to breastfeeding till one year at least, but it isnt really seen as fashionable to BF at all!! i mean, you never see it on movies or television, only bottle feeding, so i can understand hubbys reaction. but the fact remains, breast milk is MADE for baby, and changes according to their needs, something formula can never do. my doctor, who is very supportive of breastfeeding, but not a nazi about it, told me that feeding my baby myself was the ideal situation, but formula wont hurt the baby, but if you had the choice to drink fresh milk or powdered milk, which would you choose? there arnt many people who drink powdered milk out of choice, its just not as good!

I planned to breastfeed for at least 6 months, as I had to go back to work after that, BUT... Due to difficulties I didn't go back to work when planned and my baby is now 10 1/2 months and I am still breastfeeding. I am now planning to only breastfeed her until she is 12 months. The problem we have is that she has always refused to take expressed milk or formula out of a bottle or sippy cup. I still try to give her a bottle or sippy cup, but she refuses. I've tried getting other people to give it to her because I've heard that helps, but she still refuses. My partner is fine with it though, so it's easy for us (and better for bubs). You need to do what is right for you and your baby, he is not the one feeding your daughter, and he is not the one missing out on the health benefits. Best of luck, but it's not easy if you have an unsupportive partner.

i did it for two year. The first year was almost exclusive, and when I tried to stop, she kept getting REALLY sick with lung infection after lung infection (plus a few other things)for no apparent reason. She didn't gain an ounce from age 1 and a half to age 2 and a half bc she was so sick. My doc jsut told me to keep nursing bc changing her diet while she was so sick wouldn't help her to get better, it would just add more stress. generally though, I think one year is enough.
My sister in law was just plain gross!! her daughter was more than 3, and she had already had another child, and was nursing them both!! Her daughter was eating sometimes before the baby, so I worried that the girl would take the nutrients that the baby needed. She didn't care where she did it, or in front of whom. She would whip those things out right in a public place, in front on ANYBODY. I was shocked and embarrassed by it. We are VERY conservative where I live. One time I was in a MacDs of all places and some woman did the exact same thing. At 16, I was grossed out (and moved tables so I didn't have to be facing her), but not as much as the other people that were dining there on their lunch breaks. Practically everybody (all from different tables) got up, left their lunches, and walked out. She didn't even attempt to be discrete.

I breastfed my little girl until she was 1, I was for sure ready to stop by then! My sister nursed her son until he was almost 3....everybody is different, at least if you keep nursing your baby with still be getting antibodies in case he/she gets sick....I don't know you could try pumping, all in all, everyone is different and just do what works for you and don't feel bad about it =)

Current recommendations are upto a year old. There is nothing wrong with breast feeding longer than 6 months. Some self wean early others don't. If my babies would have learnt not to bite I would have gone for the 12 month mark. Some people do it far longer, it is better than formula so if you can still do it keep on going. Formula is really expensive breast milk has so many advantages so try and stick to it for longer if you can.

it kinda bothered me to do it past 6 months, but i wanted him to still have my milk not formula, so i used to express it and give it to himin a cup or bottle.
but if it still feels right for you dont stop, everyone is different and some ppl just dont like it while others swear by it, dont let your husband preasure you into anything

I've nursed both my kids and got raised eyebrows after about the six month mark. What are your husband's objections? I'd be sure to point out how expensive formula is, and the health benefits of nursing. (And I made sure to point out to people it was helping keep me slim, to boot!) When to stop is a personal decision; for me, it was about 8 months because they were getting so big. I must admit I think toddlers are too old to nurse though I know people do and I respect that decision. By 6 or 8 months, the babies seem to be more interested in experimenting with foods, so that seemed to be a reasonable time to stop for me. If my husband told me to stop just because he thought it was weird, I don't think I'd pay any attention. When you're a parent, it's about what's right for the baby, not your spouse, LOL...

I plan on breastfeeding for 6 months as well.I think (this is jut what I think) after 6-8 months is pushing it. I think it's good to still pump and give your little one breast milk, because that is what the purpose is...I have yet to breastfeed, so we will see how easy it is to stop. Maybe you can introduce food now and give her the breastmilk you pumped at night or at naps.
