best bottle while breastfeeding?

I am going to BF but want to pump and get lil man used to the botle too since I will be going back to work when he is 6 weeks. Any suggestions?

xbabybeanx - 67 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Hi there. I planned to breast feed my daughter when she was born but ended up doing both. When my let down reflex came down she couldn't cope with the flow so used to pull off and i thought she'd finnished. She ended up going from 8lb 6oz to 7lb 2oz which really worried me. The midwife suggested that i top her up with formula bottles to help her regain the weight and i felt a bit uneasy to start with. I was feeding her bottles and then breast feeding her in between so she was still used to the breast. This however made my milk supply drop so i then brought a breast pump so i could express to bring my supply back up. I found this a really good thing because in no time at all i stopped using formula but carried on giving her breast milk in bottles. I would give her 3-4 bottles of expressed milk a day and then feed her myself inbetween aswell if she wanted anymore. I plan on doing both this time because you get the best of both worlds and also my partner and 5yr old daughter can feed the baby aswell. I'd start with breast for the first few weeks so your baby gets to know it well and then when you feel ready try and express and introduce him to a bottle and see how he gets on. moms the word - 67 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I used playtex nursers with my first baby with the orthodonic nipples and it worked beautifully with my daughter. Make sure you let your little man get good at latching on before you introduce the bottle to avoid nipple confusion and make BF easier and more enjoyable for you and baby.

Debra - 68 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Just watch for BPA in the bottles (avent or any bottle that are hard plastic). We use a glass bottle and its worked well. Though we don't feed him from it all the time. I have BF and pumping tips on my VIP site if you are interested. Colic is usually a result of gas and normal crying that increases after birth until 3 months or so. Burping really helps and i have suggestions about that too on my VIP site.

RobinG - 68 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Dr. Browns bottles have the inserts that really help with gas and colic. BF babies dont get as much air and dont have to burp as often so you def want a bottle that offers the same comfort as far as air to the tummy ~ I used both bottle and breast with my first two and found that if introduced from the start it is eaiser for them to take what ever kind you want to offer since it is all they know ~ :) you dont have to use a wide nipple just cause the breast is wider.. if you wait to long to introduce it then becomes something that isnt part of the "norm" for them and can lead to nipple confusion :)

I have to go back after 8 weeks. i plan on breast feeding when ever I feed her and then letting my husband use the breast milk in the bottle when ever he feeds her. I'll be the one feeding her by breast in the early mornings and afternoon, then when he gets home from work at 3:00 he will be feeding her by bottle from then on! I think this will work the best. Then when I have her after work I'll breast feed and on the weekends! Her papa is retired and he will be watching her during the week. She will be used to the bottle by then and hopfully still want my breast when she see's me! Good luck hope this helps!
