SHould I pump/ wake daughter up for feeds?

I am currently breastfeeding my almost 3 week old daughter (will be 3 weeks tomorrow) and she has been sleeping 7-8 hr nights. Should I wake her up in the middle of the night to feed? Or should I pump? Or will my body know to make just enough for the baby or will the supply go down since I am not expressing milk them 7-8 hours. I enjoy my sleep as I do not get much of it with a 14 month old and 3 week old baby. What should I do?

Spike - 99 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) if she doesnt wake up then dont wake her up!!! she will let you know when she is hungry, theres no need to pump either unless you are feeling very full and uncomfortable.

Debra - 99 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Don't wake up baby. Unless she needs the nutrients- she is not peeing much during the day or is lethargic or gaining weight. Your breasts will adjust in 2-3 days if its going to be routine for her to sleep through the night. My baby goes to sleep around 9pm or 10pm at night (he's 7 months) and wakes around 8am. My breasts used to be full by 1am as they would expect to feed him then. Now though, they don't even start to fill up till 5am as they expect to be feeding around 8am. Breasts are amazing! So you can pump a few oz off to be comfortable while sleeping and put the bottle in a freezer bag and keep it up to 3 months in a fridge freezer or 6 months in a deep freezer. Its always good to have some milk on hand. Otherwise, if you think she'll wake up and not have milk, don't worry. Your breasts store only 1/3 of the milk it makes. When baby goes to eat, the rest is made. You only pump out what your breast stores. So if you are engorged before you go to bed, just pump out 1-3 oz per side until they feel comfortable and then go to bed. It shouldn't affect your milk production and your body will still adjust just fine. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. I also have tips about breastfeeding and infant sleep patterns on my VIP site.

thunders79 - 100 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I say you are one of the lucky ones. Don't wake your baby up! - if she was hungry, she would wake up anyway.

RobinG - 100 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I would wake unless she isnt gaining weight or has jaundice ~ most docs say let a baby sleep unless there is a medical reason to wake them ~ and as she grows and hits her growth spurts you may see her wake sooner because most babies ake more often during those growth spurt times. I was always told that our bodies need to learn when and how much milk to produce so if you dont feed at night in time it will decrease some at night but still have enough for the morning feed but will increase for daytime since the feeds are much closer ~ I wasnt able to BF long enough to see if this is true but the supply and demand I know kicks in at some point. Hopefully someone here can say for sure ~

luckywhite - 100 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) dont pump cause then it will never settle.. just ride it throught and your body will adjust.

terriamy - 100 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I had a baby that slept well through the night from day one and I breastfed for 6 months without any expressing at all I just fed on demand and it seemed to work into a nice routine well done for breast feeding its an amazing feeling x

Allioop - 100 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) NO! Do NOT wake a baby! If you are lucky enough to have a baby that sleeps through the night, do NOT disturb it! Your body will adjust. If you're worried, you can pump right before you go to bed, or feed with one breast in the morning then pump the other. Be happy that you can sleep for 7-8 hours!!!
