birth defects testing?

I go next week for my next dr visit, we are going to check for birth defects. Does anyone know what all this involves??

2b - 97 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Should be just a blood test at first and it is optional. If it comes back positive they will send you for more testing, 3 or 4D ultrasound and maybe Amnio.

summerisis - 99 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I skipped this test because of the extremely high rate of false positives. Why they even scare young women with such a test is beyond me. My husband and I opted for the amniocentisis, which some people are against for various reasons, but it is 100 percent accurate and I really helped me to be confident thorughout my pregnancy.

Spike - 99 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) it is a blood test and an ultrasound scan, neither is deffinative thats why they do both. the blood test measures hcg and fetal hormones, and the scan looks at the nuchal translusency and the spine (down syndrome and spina bifita) if the scan look realy good but the blood work doesnt you will be offered another scan to be sure. the results come back as a number ratio (eg 1/1000) meaning that you have a 1 in 1000 chance that something is wrong (that is very very low) anything higher then 1/100 and you will be offered amniocentisis, or corionic villyi sampling (cvs for short) out of the 2 cvs is the one that carries the highest risk of miscarige, but neither should be performed unless there is high risk of abnormality. good luck anyway, im going for mine this week too.

danahlovesdoug - 99 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) They take some blood and test it for Down Syndrome and Spina Bifida, check if it is covered by your insurance... sometimes its not anymore. Also signs of these birth defects show on your sonogram so if they said you might I would get the test. Also my sister was told with both her pregnancys that her sons tested positive for Down Syndrome and they're both fine (no down syndrome at all) I opted not to get the test because either way Im keeping my baby and could you imagine being told the worst and makeing horrible decisions

lilbittymunchkin - 100 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) all they do is take your blood and test for down syndrome and spina bifida. i new by the next couple of days that my baby is fine because the doc hasnt called. but not to scare you these test sometimes have a false positive. meaning that your baby is fine but the doc will want to check you more closely. i hope all is well. good luck.

Tonya- - 100 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) when they tested me that just took blood from me they can take your blood brake it down and get the babies blood which i was happy cause i told them that they could run all the tests that they wanted just as long as they took my blood only i didnt want them poking my baby or taking anything from him lol hope this helps
