32 weeks and Ambien.

I have used Ambien in the past when I was a flight attendant, but stopped when I became pregnant. I have had horrible sleeping issues lately at 32 weeks and my OB wrote me a script for it to take now. She says that its safe to take in late pregnancy but I`ve always viewed it as a wicked drug. Is anyone else taking this? Opinions?

I am pregnant again and ihave a differnet doctor and he told me the same thing. You can take tylenol PM if you can't sleep. So that is want I have been taking. You can ask your doctor if you can take that. But I don't know about Ambien

I know it has potential addictive/dependence properties, and when I stopped taking it I couldn't sleep for a while afterwards. Even if the drug won't permanently harm the baby (though I have read that the sedative effects of it might cross the placenta), I would worry about having the baby having withdrawal issues after birth. I was cranky and sleepless after going off it-- wouldn't want my baby to have that problem! Were you thinking of taking it as a regular thing, or just occasionally? If your doc says you're safe taking it, then I guess the doc knows what they're talking about, but I wouldn't take it more than asbolutely necessary, in order to avoid dependency for you or the baby! Just my opinion :)

misty08 - 137 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) My dr gave it to me when i was pregnant with my daughter.I took it onca and hated the way it made me feel.I dont know if i was being paranoid or not but my daughter seemed very slugish for a couple days I usually felt her move alot then after i took it like i said it seemed she was slugish for a while, but it might have just been me being paranoid.good luck hun.

reila - 137 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) If you go to safefetus.com and type in the drug, it tells you whether its safe. From what I saw it's in class C for drugs, so I agree it does sound a bit hardcore. I would take it with caution. But if I were you I would search the drug on that site and make that decision. Best of luck!

Allioop - 137 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Ambien does seem a little hard core for pregnancy, doesn't it? I'd be wary if I were you....of course if your OB says it's okay then I would think it would be. I would just make sure to take it ONLY when you REALLY need it. You don't want to get stuck dependent on a sleeping med especially if you plan to breastfeed or just in general having a new baby in the house! Do some of your own research online about it and see what info you can find:) It may ease your mind or help you decide against it. Good luck!
