Scheduling parents` visit at delivery time

My parents live out of state and I`m trying to figure out when they should come here for the birth. I don`t want to be induced and so I obviously have like a month-long window of when I could give birth. Any suggestions on how to handle this?

allioop - 88 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Do they have a flexible schedule and can they make the trip in a few hours? Or are planes involved? If they are driving distance--your best bet is to wait until you go into labor and have them head over right away. They can be packed and ready to go for a few weeks before your due date so when the get the call they can leave right away. Most first time moms will be in labor for 12-18 hours. If that's not possible, your *best bet* is around your due date. Most first babies come close to their due date or after. Of course that is NEVER a guarantee---my first baby was born at 38 weeks so you really just have to take chance and hope they make it! Good luck! I should say too that my husband was working out of state when I gave birth to my son---he was 6 weeks early and I had to have my father-in-law drive me to the hospital! My hubby and my parents were both 3 hours away and didn't make it!!!

summerisis - 89 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) my husband wanted the family to wait for me to deliver. lucky for me, the family wasn't interested. i would not try to do schedule family to arrive for the delivery but show up and help two weeks from your due date.

kenty - 89 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) i have asked my sister to be at the birth and since we live about 300miles apart have asked her to come and stay 2weeks before my due date...i figure it's unlikely i'll give birth before that so then she'll only have to stay a maximum of a month! i personally would advise you to do that or something similar. if you do not wish them around for such a long length of time then you could always shorthen the time between inviting them and your due date

cantchacitsme - 89 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) good luck im in a similiar boat with my DH who is military, you best bet is right around you due date, and bout a week after, that is the most likely time, tho predicting when youll go is not an easy thing, your doc may be able to give you a better idea, depending on how long hes been doing it

kater - 89 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) do you want them there for the birth itself, or to enjoy you newborn? if you dont want them at the birth i would say come around 1-2 weeks after the due date, that way they wont miss out on the 'newness' of the baby, and this way they may even be there for the birth too. however if you want them for the actual labor and delivery, its just down to luck, sorry

aulrobbri - 89 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I asked my mom to come about 2-3 weeks after I gave birth. I could enjoy her a lot more and she could spend a little more 'alert' time with the baby. Worked for us last time and that is what we are doing this time. She just started planning the day I gave birth.
