I am 34 weeks pregnant with my fourth. My midwife told me at my last visit that they will be inducing me at 37 weeks because of the size of my baby and because of my last pregnancy and delivery( which was a real nightmare). I convinced her to do a membrane sweep before trying the pitocin. I really want the sweep to work ,more than that I need it to work. I experienced the pitocin before and I dont want it again. I know that EPO helps dilate the cervix and raspberry tea helps too. I want to take these to put all the chance on my side that the sweep works. But I also dont want my baby to come to early( 37 weeks is early enough:P ). So my question is when should I start and how much. Thanks you

they did not put me on all four, I had an OB. I heard after my delivery that they were other ways this is why I am going with a midwife this time. All my labor and delivery have been with out medication or anesthisia because I react very badly to them so let say that my last delivery was pure torture. They made me do the pretzel woman and one massive nurse jumped fist first on my stomach to help the babay out....let say I felt her fistss for a good 2 months afterwards...:S

i would start epo at 36 weeks. It will only soften the cervix, not dilate it. raspberry tea doesn't do much but tone uterus for labor, but its good to be drinking it now already. You can also try ankle stimulation, nipple stimulation, sex and walk as much as possible. Have you read Ina May's book "Ina May's guide to pregnancy" ? This is by far the best book i read while pregnant and gave me great tips on getting through labor. It helped me to dilate fast as it did my friends as well. During labor with your son (who got his shoulder stuck) did they get you to get up on your hands and knees? This is one scenario Ina talks about in her book to ease shoulders that works better than anything. She is the leading midwife in the US and has delivered more than 2000 babies to women with out pain medication. My friend also had her baby shoulder stuck and it wasn't until she got up on her hands and knees that they freed the shoulder. I hope this helps!

EPO is evening primorose oil and a membrane sweep is a more natural way of induction. they swipe the membrane of the uterus with a finger or a q-tip and it makes your body create oxcitocin with is your body version of pitocin. I was induce with pitocin with my daughter it was an aweful experience and I had the membrane sweep that worked out at 37 weeks with my son. He was 9 pounds 2 oz , 3 weeks early and he had severe shoulder distotia ( shoulder got stuck during delivery ) which was extremely scary. this is why they are not taking chances and inducing me at 37 weeks this pregnancy as well.

What is EPO and membrane sweep? I was induced at 38 weeks, because my son was so large. At 38 weeks born ( C-Section) he was 8lbs.7oz They used the pitocin, and I really wish that I did not allow them to do that. I never dialated with the pitocin (I was 2 and half centimeters through labor, and them they decided to do the c-section. A waste of my time and I just hate the thought of my son, having those drugs/medication going into him, so that I can dielate.
