So it`s not really a question more me finding out how old your little ones were when you transitioned them to a toddler bed. I`m pregnant with number two, and my daughter will be 16 months old when the baby is born, so i`m starting to have her take naps in the toddler bed because we cant afford to buy another crib...so any advice on doing this?

There is no reason you cant put her in a toddler bed as long as it is safe. i.e. can she roll off? I put my daughter in a toddler bed at 16 months and she was fine.

i put my son strait into a toddler bed at 15 months caus he just didnt like the cot anymore. the first week or two was hard on up both but now he loves it! when he wakes up in the mornig he like the fact that he can just get up and play with his toys till i come and get him. considering that yu need the cot for the baby id consider making the change in the next week or two so your toddler is happyin her bed when the baby is born. she may however be jeoulous that the baby has her bed at first and that might make thing alot worse so the sooner before the birth you do it the better.

The sooner they are in a bed the sooner they can wander get into things and get in and out of bed alot which poses a danger if you are sleeping and they get out so unless you have to move her I wouldnt ~ My first was in a bed at a year but my 2nd was almost 2.5 :) I would ask around to see if you can borrow a crib or get one second hand :) You can usually get some good deals ~ plus the infant doesnt need to be in crib for a while so that gives you more time ~

My son refused to sleep in a crib after he was a year, so he's been in a big boy bed ever since. We have one of those side railings on it, and haven't had any problems at all! Good luck with the transition!

i think the books tell you after the age of 2yrs. my girls where over 2yrs. i worried about what they could get into when they got out of bed and i was asleep and climbing over gates and things like that. i have a friend who's boy is 15mos and just put him in a tod bed and they said he does so-so. just make sure the room is child proof. dressers are nailed against the wall. my son is 15mos and i don't think he is ready for one. but you need to go by what your child's readiness.

My daughter was almost two before we took her out of the crib. She was climbing out of it so I figured it was safer to put her in a bed with one of those side rail things that you slip under the matress that extends up by the side of the bed to keep her from rolling out of it. As long as your daughter is not rolling out of the bed and is sleeping ok in the toddler bed, then I wouldn't worry so much about using it now. Just follow your mother's instinct and she'll be fine.

My advice to you is to go on craigs list and find a crib cheap. You want to keep your baby in a crib as long as possible. Its so much more convienent and safe. If she is in a toddler bed she can get up and go at anytime. She may wake up super early and play with things she shouldnt while you are sleeping. My daugter was in her crib until she was about 3-1/2 years old. We even put a crib tent on the top so she couldnt climb out. She skipped the toddler bed and went straight into a twin bed which saved us money.
