If by membraines you mean the sacks of very thin skin surounding your baby and containing the waters... If they are enlarged it usualy means one of two things, you are dialated (even only a little) and they are bulging though and ready to pop, or it can also mean that there could be an infection.... however the first is the more likly

nasal, eyes, mouth, vagina/internal, anus. These are all called mucous membranes as they self lubricate. A membrane sweep is referring to the cervix and is done to help stimulate it to start dilation/labor. Please visit/read my VIP site. I have ALOT of info on there to help explain things and take the mystery out of what to expect. You shouldn't have to figure it out on your own. Also, I'm an RN and if you have any questions, please feel free to ask. I can explain all the medical stuff!

'Swollen membranes' are a nasal (nose) problem. The membranes relating to pregnancy cannot themselves swell. They will expand and 'grow' as the baby does. They are the tough sac in which the baby is contained inside your uterus/womb. We say membraneS not simply membrane (singular) because the sac around the baby is actually made up of several layers (altogether very tough). It protects the baby beautifully.
I hope this helps alittle?
