Does your doctor`s office check for dilation routinely? Mine does not and part of me wants to be checked soon and part of me does not. I stayed 3 cam dilated with my first child for almost a month so I know this won`t be the greatest indicator. but in the same sense this is my 3rd child and I don`t want to be 3-4 cm dilated and not know it. I teach 4th grade-- trying to imagine my water breaking in front of a bunch of 10 year olds, lol

Debra - 82 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Dilation and Effaced: This can happen weeks before you are actually going to go into labour. My midwife never bothered to tell me how i was doing in this regards and i was thankful to her for two reasons. #1- Getting a vaginal check is very uncomfortable. I hated her doing it when i was in labour and she kept it down to 3 times. THat was enough and towards the end of my labour, the check was more painful than the actual contractions and i needed the gas to just get through it. #2. You can be dilated for weeks before you go into labour- most women are. However, if you know you are dilated, you get more excited that you will go into labour and stick around the house. My midwife knew lots of women who would sit around the house for weeks because they were dilated and thought they would go into labour at any given time. This just creates anxiety and more stress is bad for you.

This just creates anxiety and more stress is bad for you. In other words- routinely most women are 1-2 cm dilated for the last few weeks of pregnancy. When you are 3-4 cm, you will be having labor contractions and you WILL know it. If your water breaks while you are teaching, then your water breaks while you are teaching. Children know you are pregnant, and you can tell them that the baby swims in water and when he wants to be born, he lets the plug out of the tub. that's a good analogy that children will understand and want to know about. You might be embarrased, but the kids will not be. Embarrasment is a feeling that only older children (ie. teenagers and adults experience) children between the ages of 0-8 are rarely embarrassed.

agonzales - 82 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Im 29wks and my doctor already started to check my cervix yesterday. Not sure if she is going to be doing it at every appt. I understand what you mean about being dialated and not know it. That happened to my sister. She was already due any day and when she had her doc appt they checked her and she was dialated 4 already. They just had her meet them at the hospital to have her baby since she wasnt having any contractions yet.

moms the word - 82 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Not until after 37 weeks as I have been told by her. Unless I have labor symptoms before then. I have a different doctor with this baby. With my first, I was checked from 36 weeks on cause I was having some contractions. I ended up going 12 days overdue with that baby.
