heartburn meds Added: 1286 days ago. Added by: earthmomma Section: General. Status: This question is Closed. (Questions will be closed after 10 days.)
im am 26 wk preg right now, and i have been having heartburn EVERY DAY AND NIGHT since about my 3rd month. it doesnt matter what i eat or how much at a time, sometimes i have it even without eating. and im sure it will only continue to get worse! i have been taking pepcid ac, which works for a while, but on the bottle it says to only take 2 in a 24 hour period. i HAVE to take one at bedtime in order to sleep, which only leaves me one for all day. i was wondering if it is ok to take more or if i should try to get something stronger like maybe a prescription. any suggestion would be great thanks!

PERSCRIPTION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I had major heartburn and was poping tums like candy then got a perscription and never had another one after that. I got to SLEEP at night, and not worry about what I ate, I stopped throwing up... it was a wonderful wonderful thing. It made the rest of pregnancy bearable!!!

I took tums. I frequently took several more pills than the recommended amount on the bottle, which worked when my heartburn was really severe. I wouldn't do this with this pepid ac medication however.

I have had EXTREME heartburn/acid reflux this entire pregnancy(to the point where I vomit pure acid) and we did some research back when I was in the first trimester and pepcid AC is one of the things they say NOT to take (which sucks cuz for me to it was what worked the best) I have been taking a DOUBLE dose of Zantac twice a day as directed by my dr. It helps MOST of the time. I tried baking soda concoctions and they didn't do squat for me.

My h has it bad too. his is caused by meds that he has taken for over a decade bc of an accident. Anyway, the doc told him to eat yogurt daily. it really helps him. The doc also said to elevate the head of the bed by about an inch or so. Just place a folded blanket under the mattress. Hope this helps.

I have the perfect combo for you, my husband came up with this.. and for me it works WONDERS!!! you take a full teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda, half a teaspoon of tartic acid and a pinch of epsom salt or even normal salt add it together with just a little bit of water, you have to drink it quick, and you will feel a dif right away. it ALWAYS works for me, just try it :) hope it helps
