Hey everyone, i am 37wks and every once in a while more times than not, i have a terrible shooting pain thru my lower back. Does anyone know why this might be happening?..

thunders79 - 588 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) It sounds like sciatica to me too. I had it with my last pregnancy sooooo bad! - I got it at around 38 weeks and it got so bad that i couldn't walk! Doctors then had to induce me at 40 weeks. They said it would go after the baby was born as he wouldn't be laying on my nerve anymore. Wrong! it got so much more worse and i couldn't walk for about 8 weeks. it was awful. i was having physio etc. In the end i went to an osteopath and she had me walking after two appointments with her. she was great. she also told me that pregnant women can go to osteopaths. I didn't know this at the time so if things get bad this time (midwifes say there is a really high risk of this) then i will go straight to one to try and sort the problem out. Has it started to hurt in your leg and buttocks yet?

EniChan - 588 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) sounds like the sciata nerve...i have a chronical discomfort with that pinched nerve and know too well what u feel like...its really annyoing and can be soo painful. during pregnancy it can occur but it will also go after u gave birth. so u dont need to worry.

katznkt - 588 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) sciatic nerves more than likely, back pain in general is normal and probably wont let up until birth. good luck, you are almost done now!

Debra - 588 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) yes, your uterus is putting weight on your sciatic nerves. Swelling can be at fault. Also the hormone relaxin that has released your joints will also make things more 'loose' and cause things to go out. After birth, i saw my massage therapist every 2 weeks. Now i go once a month. I started seeing the chiropractor at 4 months once the relaxin was out of my system. I see her every 3 weeks to help with the back pain that I still have. My hips go out and I also have problems with pinced nerves. I also found that because I wasn't exercising a lot during pregnancy- especially stopping biking, made my leg muscles atrophy. I have a lot of pain in my legs now because the muscles are so poorly conditioned. Now that I'm working on those muscles and tightening my core with the help of yoga and abdominal exercises, i find that I'm having less nerve pain coursing through my back. I hope this helps!

misty08 - 589 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I have the same thing my dr.says it is my siatica ss have no idea how to spell that.I have it so bad sometimes it goes to my back all the way down my leg. There is really nothing the can do my dr told me to use a heating pad on low for a bit.sometimes it helps and sometimes not but i have mine everyday @ diffrent times. It sucks because when i am in public when it does it i can barly walk and it is just like a shock when it happens so i usually let ut a little OUCH and people look at me like i amnuts...lol hope this helps a bit.
