sex- the activity and prostiglandins in the sperm. Kayleen's tips. Hang out with newborn crying if possible :) the cries stimulate oxytocin release as well. Ankle reflexology or stimulation- you can google this to see how to do it. Don't take castor oil as it can cause baby to go into distress. Keep your bowels soft towards the end of your time by taking benefiber and drinking plenty of water. If you are constipated or have a full bladder, both will put pressure on your cervix and prevent dilation from occuring. Walk a lot! The exercise will help to stimulate you. Also, I liked rolling around on my exercise ball. It can help to open up your pelvis and its also good to hang onto during strong contractions.

consistent sex, and a long brisk walk worked for me, although I also drank rasberry leaf tea, and tried castor oil (dont do it, it has a horrible consistency, and didnt do me a bit of good either time i tried it!)

1.) SEX: Having orgasms releases oxytocin and sperm contains prostoglandens that help to ripen the cervix.
2.) I just started the Evening Primrose Oil. Which also contains protoglandens that help ripen the cervix. Insert 1000mg capsul vaginaly at night before bed. Increas to 2 or 3 capsuls a day by week 38. This doesn't bring on contrations, just helps prepare/thin the cervix.
3.) Nipple stimulation (not recommended until full term) which is 37 weeks. You can roll your nipples between your forefinger and thumb or even use your breast pump if you have one. (Use it on the lowest setting) Pump/stimulate the nipples for 15-45 minutes at a time. Wait a couple hours, then do it again.... This WILL bring on contractions! So be wise and only do it if you are full term!
Those are the only 3 methods that the majority agree are effective ways of bringing on contractions and helping ripen the cervix. But I believe that these things are only effective if your body is ready anyway... Good luck!
