With so much stuff you see in the stores it is really hard for the first time mom to really know what should be concidered essential baby gear. Please tell me what your little one(s) couldn`t live without. That way I`m not overwhelmed when I start making my list of `must have` baby items!-Thank you!

To tell you the truth my little guys only used the swing for a couple minutes at a time. And it was only for the first little bit of infancy. What I used a lot in the beginning was the vibrating bouncer chair. And reasonably priced too. Later when they wanted more play time and could hold themselves up pretty good we used the excersaucer. It was a must for us. They could twirl around and chew on the attached toys or eat cheerios with little mess. And we used it for quite sometime. I also loved having a changing table. In time you'll learn what you like though.

My 2 favorite things that I loved and my baby did too was the boppy pillow (don't really use for very long though) and a bouncer, which she loves, sit her in front of the tv and she occupided for awhile

Yeah, and half those "essential" lists you get when registering are loads of crap. They just want you to buy lots of stuff from them. I agree with the other poster who said it depends on the baby. It also depends on where you live, your lifesytle and parenting style. The basics: car seat, stroller, crib and bedding, bottles, nipples, bottle brushes, baby wash, wash clothes, bibs. Stuff that me and my son couldnt live without: Baby Bjorn, Boppy pillow, swing, bouncer seat, play mat, doorway jumper, exersaucer, pacifiers, bottle warmer, brush, nail clipper, asperator, soft blankets, car seat cover, toys, lotion. I barely used by sons tub, I would take him in the bath with me. I found that to me MUCH easier, I never used receiving blankets, bottle sterilizer, pack n' play, bassinet. I used cloth diapers for burp rags. Im in cold weather so I needed a coat, gloves, hats. LEAHS said it, Go to Craigslist! Also garage sales. If you search you can find gently used stuff for much cheaper. Some of my most used items came from garage sales and Craigslist.

I _can_ live without the high chair. So bulky and a big thing to clean. You can get an infant booster seat to strap onto a kitchen chair and pull baby right up to the table. Costs about $30, and quick to wipe down. DD liked being a part of what was going on at the table, even before she began to experiment with foods.

my one can't live without item is a pack n play from KMart that we got on sale for $80. It has the bassinet in the top for him now, and the pockets and storage on the end. I keep it in the living room and store everything I need for diaper changes, clothes changes, extra blankets, etc right there in reach. I love it!! The other item I have found really useful is the outfits that have the mittens built in because even at 3 weeks today I put him in these at night, cuts down on scratches and seems to give him more decurity for sleeping

I think it really depends on the baby, some love jumers, boppy chairs, swings, others hate them all. If you know anyone who has kids and you could borrow a couple things for awhile just to see if your baby will like it before you go out and spend a bunch of money on something your child will hate. I got most of my stuff off Craigslist, that way I didn't pay much in case she didn't like it.

Essentials; bottles-nipples, diapers, wipes, rash cream, receiving blankets, crib/bedding, aspirator, thermometer, nail trimmers, hair brush, high chair, car seat, baby washcloths-soap-lotion. After about 1 month the bather chair that goes in the tub was a MUST. We used a bouncy chair but, he hated his swing (some babies really like the swing). We thought we had to have the diaper genie but, we hated storing poo in the house and no one wanted to empty it. The store bought velcro swaddler was a waste of money for us. A boppy is very useful. After about 6 months, the pack-n-play has been useful. A doorway jumper was highly used by our son. Everything else you can really live without but others will disagree with me.
