weight loss w/ breastfeeding Added: 1261 days ago. Added by: janice12 Section: General. Status: This question is Closed. (Questions will be closed after 10 days.)
To anyone who has had a child ready and breastfed, what was your rate of weight loss? Like hoiw much did you lose straight after the birth and then a few weeks later and a month later etc. I am concerned as I have put on 40lbs now and I want to mentally prepare myself for how much I will need to lose on my own. :)

I was originally 132 lbs before I was pregnant. When I gave birth, I was 173 lbs. A month later, I was 125 lbs, less than my pre-pregnancy weight, and I never worked out. I thank breastfeeding!!!

My weight fell off like I never imagined it would when I breast fed after having my son. My pre-pregnancy weight was 138 and at week 5, I weighed 132. My total weight gain for him was 152, so I lost exactly 20 lbs in 5 weeks. Now, with my daughter (who I did NOT breast feed), I gained close to 70 lbs. for her pregnancy and it took me 11 and a half months to get back to pre-pregnancy size.

Everyone is different really and it depends! For me, I gained more than 56lbs with my daughter. I was 120lbs before and about 4-5 months after I was back down to 136 and I was trying anything really I only BF until she was 4 months and I had a hard time with it. So, I would guess it would be more rapid if you where to work at getting it of, and had more luck with BFing. I'd can't wait this time I don't really care how much this time, just to think of not being this big and akward, will be nice. You practically loose 15-20 lbs over night if you are lucky! For you that's like half right off! Good luck and don't worry you will be to busy being happy and cooing over your new little one:)

I think I lost a mere 8 lbs after my first son was born. And not much in the weeks to follow. I wouldn't count on breastfeeding making you lose weight. Didn't work for me. Only a healthy diet and lifestyle helped me lose the weight. Hope you have it a little easier than I did! :)
