ive always found our cats to be wonderful with my children. our cat loves the new baby, he didnt have any trouble adjusting at all. my doctor said there has never been an accurately documented case of a cat harming a child-as in sleeping on their faces, jenakers is right, they used to blame SIDS on cats.

My cat was a repectable companion for our new baby. The cat smothering a child thing is a myth that has been linked with SIDS before we had info on SIDS. My cat NEVER tried to sit on our child or even get in his crib.

I haven't (I don't own any cats nor am I a kitty fan..lol).
But I was thinking I'd be scared the baby would be just moving its arms or legs and the cat would swat at it thinking it was playing or something.

I had two cats at home when I brought my little girl home. They loved her! They slept under her cradle and NEVER jumped or lay on her. When she cried, they would go to her door and cry with her till I came to get her. We just showed her to them when we came home and that was really it. To this day, they love and protect her like she is their sister. I think it is just a matter of how your relationship is with them, the cats I mean.

personally i have not had the experience yet but will in a few weeks! i have heard a lot of people whose cats get jealous and starting peeing on things. i do think however that it has to do with the way you handle the new baby and giving the cat attention. i think if you stop giving your cat attention it will get mad and jealous and start to act out. i have heard you should bring something home from the hospital with the baby's scent on it and let the cats smell it before you bring the baby. also, when you bring the baby home make sure you greet your cat as you normally would and even bring the baby into a different room with you and let the cat come in as it feels like it. just suggestions i've read about. i'm nervous about this though. our 2 kitties are like our kids!
