yeah i agree with lauralou2111 because i had a spinal and all i felt was some tugging i did not feel any pain until after i was un numb. with the spinal you just feel a rush of warmth and then you are completely numb i didnt know that they did not do it this way with every c section but yeah i would definitly look into the spinal.hope this helps

You could ask for a spinal instead i had this and its better it works instantly i felt nothing when it went in and you can get up and walk 4 hrs after birth if you feel like it.

The best tip is not to look at the needle they use, which is something that at the time will resemble the barrel of a ball point pen! If you think of it as just the usual "drawing blood" kind of needle and put yourself in that frame of mind, you'll be fine. You can totally psych yourself out about it if you think about it. It's mind over matter.

The epidural did not hurt at all. They put this numbing stuff in you with a little shot thing and it burns a little and after that you cant feel them putting in the epidural. Its not scary at all!!! I was terrified to get it but it wasnt bad at all.I think that IV hurt more.

i havent had an epidural, but at the beginning of my pregnancy i had to have a spinal tap which is similar to an epidural in that the have to insert a needles between your vertebraes into the same area where epidurals go. it is probly a little less intense because its just a big needle that they take out after, and with an epidural there is a catheter that stays in. but after my spinal tap, i decided there was NO WAY i am going to get an epidural! it hurt when they did it, but the did numb it a little first but it didnt help much. but afterwards my back was so sore for 1 1/2 weeks. luckily i didnt get the headaches that can come after a spinal or epidural.

My epidural just felt like pressure. It didn't hurt but it wasn't really comfortable either. I was induced so at that point I wasn't really having contractions (my contractions started about 5 minutes after the epidural went in lol) to mask the pain either. Don't worry, it's not that bad.

I always heard about this huge needle they put in you and it hurts so bad you want to die. BS! Mine didnt hurt at all. After laboring for hourts with painful induced contractions the epidural was a relief! Dont worry. It's still better then hours of contractions!! :D

no not at all.. they numb it first with a smaller needle, then put the epidural in.

I had a c-section and the epidural was not painful. However, after I started "not feeling" my legs I had a panic attack and started to dry heave so I had to be given something to calm me down. Don't be afraid. It will be ok.

Hi, this is my 3rd c-section. My first was emergency so they knocked me out, my second was elective, i too was worried like you as i have a fear of needles. Well its nothing at all to worry about, getting my bloods taken hurt me more than getting the spinal done! Believe me there is nothing to be scared about:) Good Luck

Oh, heavens no. It is not as bad as people think, just stay relaxed and besides after getting it you won't feel anything at all!

The only thing I have to say about an epidural is, it doesn't hurt NEAR as bad as full blown labor pains. :) Don't stress over it honey, you'll be fine. If you cooperate and try to stay relaxed while getting the epidural, it'll be over before you know it. Good luck!!

Hi, I was also suppose to have a planned c-section, but baby actually came a week earlier, long story, I was also nervous about the whole spinal block and thought that it would hurt like hell. I was actually surprised the actuall procedure didn't hurt at all, you do experience some pain when the epidural/spinal starts to wear off it wasn't even close to what I expected, the first two days after my section was painfull and walking for the first time afterwards is awfull, but don't worry not closelly as painfull as I thought it would be, the hospital does give you pain meds which works if you take them on time or tell them that you are in pain they will give them to you and they work really well, don't stress having your baby in your arms is worth the little pain that you will experience, Good Luck !!
