Hi! So I am due in about 10 days and I wanted to start packing my bag soon in case I have to rush to the hospital. I am not sure what I have to take with me besides the stuff I will need. What will I need for the baby that the hospital doesnt provide?

If you are having a boy circumcized, you may want to bring some ingfan tylenol. They decided to schedule pics one hr aftyer the procedure and we didn't get good pics. They don't give anything else for pain once the initial meds wear off.

Why don't you call the l&d at your hospital and ask what they provide. That way there is no guessing.

I never bring enough panties......seems weird but take extra. The ones they supply at the hospital were uncomfortable.

The only think we needed for the baby was his outfit to come home. They gave us clothes for in there, diapers, and wipes...

You should pack for two days just in case. I have been told that the hospital only provides the bed and milk for baby-if not breastfeeding-but it can vary from hospital to hospital. The books that the midwife would have provided you with will have a generic list of what to take in but heres somethings ill be packing.Snacks, drinks(gotta keep energy up as MIL body stopped halfway thru birth as had nothing to run on and hospital wouldnt let her eat,so need to munch anything as soon as it starts-she had to be put on feed drip to start contractions again)My hospital notes, New undies(Biiig ones as wearing maternity pads after birth),pads, nipple pads, nipple cream(i intend to breastfeed),nursing bras, 2/3 night shirts, socks, dressing gown, slippers, hairbrush, hair bands as cant be dealing with sweaty hair in face!,face cleansers, moisturiser, cotton wool(for me),toothbrush/paste. purse and money, mobile phone, books, ipod, towel,a water mist spray and face cloth(apparently great to be sprayed by birthing partner thru birth to cool down and keep as fresh as poss) and a change of clothing for me to travel home in. Baby- nappies, wipes, scratch mitts, hat, baby grows, outfit for home, socks, talcum powder, nappy cream, baby wash-may not use depends how long in there, but better to be safe than sorry.a baby towel (for when they've cleaned him and passed him back-dont want NHS scratchy stuff next to his skin),and a baby shawl/wrap for warmth.dont forget car seat too- hospital wont let baby out if travelling by car without baby seat.x x

I was advised to pack two for me, a smaller labour one which just had things like snacks, (game, paper, snacks for hubby) and nightie, pads, towel, baby gro etc just things for labouring as you can sometimes get moved about and carrying massive bags is not top on your mans list and will likely forget something lol. Then have your actual main bag in the car so when baby is here hubby can get it and it will have all your essentials like shower gel toothbrush hair brush. Also obviously baby bag, if you google seach hospital bags for labour there are loads of site that give you ideas, i certainly would have forgot lot. I am 29 weeks and have written out a list of what ill need and left it in each bag so if i get caught shirt hubby will know exactly what ill need lol. Preperation is key lol

Each hospital is different. What I did was called L&D and asked them what I needed. Hope that helps

you should call the maternity ward and see what supplies they have on hand. it depends on the hospital, but the one I delivered at had pretty much everything except disposible diapers. THey had cloth ones for the baby there. I brought my own sleepers, swaddlers, creams, diapers, burp cloths. If you are nursing, you might want to bring a feeding pillow. I like the 'my breast friend' pillow as it has ergonomic support for baby and helps with back pain. For other stuff, I have a list of the things I brought to the hospital on my VIP site. Some stuff I brought that i never thought of myself that my girlfriends told me to bring. I hope that helps!
