Hello ladies I am very confused. My EDC 4/13/09, I started to bleed last nite for about 3hrs then it stopped. Nothing else since. I went to the MD this morning & she ordered a sonogram. I got the sono & they said I`ve miscarried... I am confused? I haven`t have one single pregnancy symptom besides my swollen breast & bad headaches. I haven`t gained any weight or anything. The question I have is WHY DIDNT SHE ORDER A BASELINE HCG? THEN ORDER ONE FOR 3 DAYS FROM TO SEE IF THIS IS THE CASE.

You are 10 weeks along. When the sonogram was performed they were looking for 2 things...first, they were looking for a baby because it may have miscarried (passed through) with the bleeding...second, if they saw the baby they were looking for a heartbeat - if the heart was not beating (a missed miscarriage) then there is no need to check HCG levels. As Harpchick suggested: ask your doctor for a full explanation. If you need more reassurance or 'proof positive' they will, in some cases, repeat the sonogram so you can again see things for yourself. I lost my first baby at 13 weeks to a missed miscarriage....I understand your confusion..thankfully I had a sonographer and doctor who explained things immediately....they even offered to redo the sonogram the next day so I could see everything again (I refused but later wished I had taken them up on it...)

I suppose it's difficult for anyone to say without knowing precisely what the sonographer saw on the ultrasound. I would touch base with your doctor to ask for a full explanation; they will have received a follow-up report from the sonographer which should offer some insights.
