Hi Ladies, I will be having my first baby in a FEW short weeks. I was wondering, is it really necessary to pre-wash all new blankets/clothing baby has received? I was considering spraying them w/ a febreeze type disinfectant, and then allowing them to air dry (ofcourse nontoxic). If this is ridiculous, please feel free to let me know, as I did request your advice!!!! Thanks in advance ladies, you`re the BEST!

emmareed84 - 1238 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I hate washing more than anything, but actually i found with my 1st i washed all his clothes in a few washes and dried it on the airer and it wasnt that bad lol. Plus most places use a chemical one clothes to keep them looking new so its always best to wash all babys clothes before putting them in it.

myownqueen - 1238 days ago Ladies, thanks for all the wonderful advice, I will begin my little loads today. Take care and God Bless!

starby - 1238 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I would definately wash everything before it touches your baby's skin...there are so many starches and weird things on clothes and blankets when they are new its just always a good idea to wash first especially baby stuff. My pediatrician even recommended that I wash my shirts and anything the baby lays against with the Dreft or special baby wash because their skin is so sensitive. My little one gets irritated skin very easily so I wash my clothes that she lasy against with all her stuff.

alethea - 1238 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Yes i always wash everything a week or 2 before baby is due. It cleans, softens and freshens them for when baby comes. I also do it so baby gets used to the liquid and softener i use :)

RobinG - 1238 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I wouldnt spray them with febreeze ~ to me that is more toxic. I always washed my infants clothes but as they got to be about 2-4 months old or so I did it after they were worn once and I knew they didnt have any skin sensitivies :)

mariettap - 1238 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Their stuff is so small. A load or two will probably do ya. :)

kevinsmilf08 - 1238 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Oh, definitely wash everything! I guess I don't understand why you wouldn't...? Especially if spraying clothes, blankets, etc... with chemicals (non toxic or not) is your alternative. Like one mom said, you don't know what kind of unseen gunk can get on stuff from others perusing the racks. Even things that are packaged in plastic can be opened and returned. Get a little baby detergent and run the rinse cycle twice to get any soap residue out. I would say most definitely it's necessary.

Mrs.M.H. - 1238 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Well I know that I didn't think I was going to wash everything but when I unfolded the receiving blankets I changed my mind because they they had this over powering feeling of like ammonia and fabric starch. I would recomend washing now that I encountered that I didn't worry so much with my first but I had a lot of hand me downs for her that were already washed. If you think about it anything that wasn't wrapped in the store was also touched by a lot of people but other wise go with what instinct tells you to wash, it doesn't really have to be everything but it can't hurt.

canuck - 1238 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) i believe it is, it usually softens everything up a little and gets any sort of dye or anything left over out of it. I just threw them all in together with a little baby laundry soap about a week before she was due

Its-Chelle - 1238 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) yes i washed everything..some stuff is not packaged up in the stores and all kinds of people have had their hands on it..plus washing it gets the "store" or dye smell out of it..good luck, you have a few wks to go!bet you cant wait
