Pitocin is evil stuff!!! I went from 2 cm to 10 in an hour. This may not be the normal reaction to it. The doc told me I probably wouldn't be ready to deliver 'till 8 hours from the time he added it to my IV. I felt the full effects on my contractions only 10 minutes after he gave it to me. I was begging for an epidural which took another 45 minutes for the nurse to find the anesthesiologist.

I was induced with the first 2 and went on my own with the 3rd. 1st was about 8hrs, 2nd was out in less then 2hr between the gel insertion and the baby's birth (very quick & easy) but I tore with him and the last one was actually more intense then the 2nd but I didn't tear because it didn't go as fast. All in all induction (for me anyway) wasn't much different then going in naturally. I wouldn't say that it makes the contractions any worse because the contractions with my 3rd were much worse then my 2nd, however, recovery was better with the 3rd.

I was induced, and had a dry birth...no amniotic fluid at all!! I also had an epidural, and didn't feel anything during labor or the birth. In fact, I slept through most of the labor, which was nice, because I then had plenty of energy for delivery. I was walking hallways a couple of hours after having my daughter.

I hope it goes better for you than it did for me! I stalled out at 6 cm and ended up having a c-section! On the bright side, some people do really well with it so who knows, maybe you'll be one of those people! Keep your head up and good luck!
