I just found out I`m pregnant. I`m only 4-5 days late but the home test is positive. But for the past few weeks I`ve been drinking heavily and using cocaine. I`ve stopped but I`m worried that some damage has been done. Please tell me I stopped before any damage has been done......

My sis in law was a big time druggie. her and my bro have 3 kids together. the oldest one came out fine. the other 2 well they still have problems till this day and it was because my sis in law did drugs and smoked cigarettes the entire time of her pregnancy. she probably weighed 130 throughout the pregnancy. i know it doesnt seem bad but when ur 5'8 thats pretty thin. well the kids are 15 and 14 and they cant talk right. u cant understand what there saying at all. i feel so bad for them because they get teased at school. i think it takes alot of drugs and alcohol to hurt the baby but as long as u stop now u'll be fine.

Nothing can compare to the high you get from your baby's smile or laugh or knowing that you are the most important person in the world to him. My advice is to pray about it. Nothing you ever do is too big for God to fix- plus He can give you what you need to stay off the drugs. That will probably include professional help. You may need to think about who you hang around with- will they help you or hurt you? Good luck!

katiemul - 2163 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) my adopted brother and sister (twins, five yrs old) were born with cocaine dependancy. Kids hurt by cocaine are pretty messed up at birth until about 2 or 3 years, constant crying, thier in pain, they scratch and pull at thier skin and ears because of itchiness and headaches. its really horrible. Im not trying to make you feel bad, but you need to make sure you have a good support system like Melissa says so you dont go back to using. The good knews is that kids affected by cocaine start life out horribly, but usually end up happy, healthy and smart after the first 3 years or so. With FASD, however, babies seem normal at birth, but hit a point in thier lives (be it 3 yrs, 7 yrs, 15yrs, whatever) where thier intellectual and emotional maturity level kinda platueas. This is all awful news to you I know, but, if you were less than three weeks pregnant when you drank and used than the baby is probably just fine. I found out at three weeks and I had been drinking heavily too, but i dont have a dont in my mind that this babe is healthy. Good luck, and sorry if I scared you, but I've seen it first hand and its not pretty. take care and god bless

MelissaLMoore - 2163 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) You should be fine. Just don't continue using. You might need some help if you are prone to doing this kind of activity. Pregnancy hormones are very rough and can cause a roller coaster of emotions. Just make sure you have a support system! (I am speaking from experience, so please don't think I am talking down to you-I have been where you are.)

kristalsfirst - 2163 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) i drank heavily before i found out i was pregnant. my son is 10 weeks old and perfect. i stopped right when i found out i was pregnant. thats all u can really do. im not sure about the drugs tho... but stress and worrying wont help u so try to forget about it. i know easier said then done

kyrsten - 2163 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) i drank and smoked until i found out i was pregnant and i was like almost 2 months pregnant they usually say as long as you quite immediately when you find out that you are pregnant then usually it will be ok i really dont know about the cocaine thing though you are really just going to have to really cautious about what you do and god willing everything be ok.

Debra - 2163 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) unfortunately you won't know the result until you give birth. Its best for you as i'm sure you know to never touch cocaine again. It does fry your brain. I'm a nurse to a population that is riddled with drug abuse and many of my patients have severe dementia from cocaine drug use. Cocaine causes your brain to get holes in it that can never be repaired. I'm saying this to you to make SURE you are scared enough to never touch cocaine again. Drinking however- if you do not drink anymore, your baby will most likely to be fine. It seems that what you drink before you find out you are pregnant doesn't seem to affect baby much- its more that if you continue to drink during pregnancy that your baby will be more likely to have FAS. Same goes for cocaine use during pregnancy- brain development is affected and they are also born very sick, low weight and addicted. I'm sorry if any of this is tough to hear- its the truth though and i know its never easy. I hope you are in a recovery program or have good support system around you to keep you away from drugs. I also hope your pregnancy goes well.

tenaciousT - 2163 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) My girlfriend was almost 9 weeks pregnant and did just about anything that was out there before she knew she was pregnant. She went on to have a healthy baby girl who is very smart. I honestly think you will be ok.

montanamamaof3 - 2164 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I drank before I knew I was pregnant with all 3 of my pregnancies and my 2 sons are perfect. Hopefully, this one is too. I am sure yours will be too. I know a woman who (as horrible as this is) told me she smoked pot her whole pregnancy. Her daughter is 6 years old and is very intelligent. Do some internet research on it but no one can tell for sure until it's born. I would think you're okay though.

cadesmommy - 2164 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I dont know about the drugs BUT with the drinking I drank very heavily before I found out I was pregnant with my son. We went to the beach for a week and the whole week was drinking(I mean seriously I was drunk every night). I went to the doctor and told him and he told me not to worry because I was so early on the baby would not be affected. He told me not to sweat it and my son is perfect :) Talk to your doctor and dont worry too much. So many women had this same thing happen to this. Good luck!

jessicadarling - 2164 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) When i found out i was pregnant it was summer and i was already 7 weeks pregnant. I had been to a few parties where i had drank. I saw my doctor and started crying and saying i thought my baby would have FAS. She told me if that were the case then so many babies would have FAS. She said from this point on make sure to stop drinking and smoking and I did and my daughter is fine. A friend of mine did cocaine early on and she had a healthy baby girl as well. She went in to labour 7 weeks early though but they were able to stop it and 4 weeks later she had her baby girl

earthmomma - 2164 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) no one can tell you if damage has been done or not...some people do a lot of things and the baby turns out ok and others barely do any and have problems. the most sensitive and crucial time for the fetus and to avoid fetal harm is in the very beginning, so stopping now is good and will at least prevent and further harm, if any has been done already. when you go to the doctor for your first appointment, be honest with them when they ask about your drug use. there is early testing you can get done in the beginning, and if they know there is a risk, then they can do more to find out about the health of the baby. i wish you all the luck!!!
