Preterm contractions Added: 1220 days ago. Added by: Trishey Section: General. Status: This question is Closed. (Questions will be closed after 10 days.)
So that past 2 weeks I have had to go to labor and delivery 2x for preterm contractions (as my doc says). I am 30 weeks now. I have had to get a shot both times that I have went and now have to take the pill form of the shot while I am at home to stop them b/c my doc doesnt want me to start labor yet. I am not on bedrest yet just reduced work hours. Has anyone else had this happen. Did you end up on bedrest? Does this mean that the baby will probably come early? I am just nervous.

Thanks to you all. I go back to the doc next week. I am drinking so much water that I feel like I am going to float away. The most I have had to take the pills is 3x a day so hopefully it doesnt go any further than that. I havent dialated and my test were negative. Maybe my body is just tired...lol. I work in a hospital so day to day my stress level fluctuates. Thanks to you all for answering.

i went into preterm labor at 28w and 32 weeks..had the shot every week and the pills every 4 hrs...fun fun..i did end up onbedrest..i also had ic so that may have helped...but being on bedrest helps take the pressure of the pelvis,so it will help with stopping labor to be elevated...i ended up having my son at 38 weeks but not because of preterm...i had stopped everything...and because of all i had gone through i wanted this child out...and he was big too so i was induced and he was 9lb 10 oz...good luck though and all i can say is its worth it int he end!!

I had the shots and 2 nights in hospital at 33-weeks due to pre-term labor. A fetal fibro nectin test indicated that I was at higher risk for delivering within 2 weeks. After discharge from the hospital and put on bedrest and continued to take the pills to stop contractions for another week. Well, I was taken off bedrest at 37 weeks and I am now at 39 weeks still waiting for baby's arrival. Listen to your body and rest whenever you can. The longer you can keep the little one in there the better.

I had issues with preterm labor with my first. Was put on bedrest but can't remember how far along I was (11+ years ago). So far with this pregnancy I have only had one incident of preterm labor. I also received a shot and haven't had any problems since. I would be concerened if the contractions caused dilation. If you haven't dilated I wouldn't be too concerned. Staying hydrated is a key to preventing the contractions. I was told that I should drink between 64-80 oz of fluid a day. I started this after my contraction incident and haven't had any problems. Try and see if it helps.

did your doc do an internal to see if you are dilating? Ive had tons and tons of painful BH and was checked (not dilating). Baby is engaged and ive already had a show, but ive not been told anything about being in pre-term labour or offered a shot. Just wondered what might be different cos it worries me that ill end up going early.
