6 months pregnant and fired Added: 1196 days ago. Added by: sarbear079 Section: General. Status: This question is Closed. (Questions will be closed after 10 days.)
Today my boss fired me because i am pregnant. He said it was because he was `getting rid` of all his part time employees, which is a lie because all his employees are part time and I know for a fact i am the only one he fired. He has also treated me badly since i told him i was pregnant and made comments about my pregnancy, all of which are illegal.I have never been fired in my life.I can`t afford an attorney and i dont know what to do i feel so violated this is my first child and i can`t afford to loose my job! I am so upset :( any advise would help me so much! thank you

Can we say "illegal"? I would contact an attorney and explain your situation. Most attorneys will take on a case for a contingency fee, meaning you will only pay him for his services IF you were to win your lawsuit. In the meantime, check into unemployment!

Here in Canada that is illigal and you can go to the labor board and they will deal with it for you!

I agree with lizzie287. Is there legal aid in the US? They give free or low cost lawyers to those who qualify. Also, like Harpchick said, I'd go to the local media. Tell them your story.

Ditto, contact unemployment and fight for wrongful dismissal. Second of all, hit up legal aid because he cannot fire you like that. Do you have record of the derrogatory comments he's made to you about being pregnant? That would help the case (but I know, who actually keeps track of that stuff, unless you know there is a lawsuit waiting to happen ...)

first contact unemployment. i think they give you a small check. i think you can find financial aid for a lawyer. just do a little research.

if you find the right lawyer he may make the company pay for his legal fees instead of you! best of luck. that is totally wrong of him to do

he cannot fire u because u r pregnant, u are now a protected group! take this up legally, tell ur lawyer that no one else has been and tell him u feel victimised as he has made comments inappropraitely about ur pregnancy and he has bullied u - because thats what it is. dont leave it alone, a lot of women will because they are pregnant but he cannot be allowed to get away with it......harpchick is right, go public, slate his name. you'll at least get some money from papers and mags for the story x

Omg this is ridiculous.. you should take this matter up legally.. Your boss cannot fire you just because you are pregnant.. i think its time to stand up for your rights and fight against injustice and the discrimination towards you.. I agree with Harpchick's advice below to search for an attorney who would charge you after you won the case..or for try to take help from an NGO or some womens organisation or social service group and protest against your boss..

You might want to check into attorneys that don't require payment unless or until you win your case, at which point they take their fee from your winnings. I would also look into women's advocacy groups to see if there are attorneys who take this kind of case pro bono. Worst case scenario, you could just go public with your story; you might mention to your boss that reconsidering the unfair treatment would save you some discussions with various media outlets and save him some embarrassment in the process. It might not get you a settlement, but it would sure give you some satisfaction.
