breastfeeding and teething Added: 1182 days ago. Added by: tto Section: General. Status: This question is Closed. (Questions will be closed after 10 days.)
What does your baby do when he is teething and nursing? My baby is 4 1/2 mos. old and he clamps down on my nipple and tugs it around. Ouch! Is he teething? If not, why is he doing this? He acts like a dog with a bone!

I agree with the others who have left comments. It could be a little bit teething, but it could also be a little bit of a game. Usually the first time my kids bite, I am so shocked and react that way, it usually breaks the habit. But it is also a good idea to say no, and take them off the breast to send a message that it is not okay.

Only offer yourself to your son for a feeding, when he starts playing around and not drinking unlatch him. I found out the hard way.....shen I would offer myself to my son without waiting for a cue from him he bit me so hard it broke the skin and hurt so bad for a week.

it sounds like he thinks your nipple is a toy, my 4 month old baby does this, and i say 'no' in a firm voice. and take him off, as if he is playing he obviously isnt hungry.

lol, all of mine have done the same. I think it is partially teething and partially just a new feeling and something new they can do. It feels neat to be able to bite and play with anything that is in there mouths at this point.
