If you had to medicate your baby for acid reflux, did you need to increase the dose as the baby grew?

nmck - 1174 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) My son is doing well on prevacid. My ped said he will ween himself off of it as he grows and the dosage stays the same. But if your son is not doing well, he may need an adjustment.

antsmom - 1176 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) My son had terrible reflux. I didn't know that he should have had his dosage increased with his weight gain. Around 6 months he began refusing to eat and screaming his little head off after feedings. The doc ended up increasing his Zantac dosage AND having me give him a half of a pill of Prevacid each day. His frequent projectile spitting up decreased around 9 months so I took him off all meds around that time and thankfully, he's been fine since. So in answer to your question.... YES, their dosage needs to be increased with thier weight gain. Good luck!

MelissaLMoore - 1176 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) My son was on Prevacid. They only let him stay on it for 6 months due to possible long term side effects. However, I was told that once a baby or small child has been on medication for a while, their body is used to controlling the acid, therefore, once off medication, the body naturally starts controlling it. Sounds funny, but it was true with my son. However, he does still have gastro-intestinal issues that are not related to AR.

msmillsap08 - 1176 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) My baby has Acid Reflux but she isnt on any meds for it, we just give her the Enfamil AR Lipil to help with it and then elevate the head of her bed so she doesnt choke while she sleeps. It seems to be helping her without any meds. But I would think as a child grew it would need a stronger dose of meds. Id just call the doctor and ask.
