HELP! Why won`t my baby sleep?! Added: 1176 days ago. Added by: tto Section: General. Status: This question is Closed. (Questions will be closed after 10 days.)
I`ll try to keep it short- around 4 months, my son got a stuffy nose and that woke him up a lot. Then he got his four month shots which were hard on him too and he still continued to get up frequently- 3 times a night. Since then it is only getting worse! I think he got up once an hour last night. I`m not sure why. My suspicion is caffeine. With his runny nose I starte to NEED a caffeinated coffee in the am. I don`t drink a whole lot, maybe one or two cups a day. Is that enough to keep him from sleeping soundly at night? I`m trying to cut it out now, but all the pumped milk he drinks while I`m at work probably has it too. My other thought is maybe his acid reflux meds need to be increased since he is nearly double this size he was when it was prescribed. Anyone else know of anything? He isn`t too hot or cold either.

coffee shouldn't affect him this much. How good are his naps? if my son is over tired, then i find he wakes up WAY more at night. The stuffy nose might be making him more tired as his sleep is interupted. Have you used a humidifier in his room at night? i found that helped a lot during colds. ALso- a rosemary respiratory rub i got at www.mother-earth.ca that helps to open up his little nose. You can also try white noise- or other sound which often helps to soothe babies back to sleep.

Let me clarify a little...his stuffy nose is ok now. But he is waking EVERY HOUR! I actually loose count of how many times a night he is waking up! I'm going crazy!

My babies took forever to sleep through the night, especially after they were sick or had shots it would be hard for a day or two. I think bigger babies also get hungry more at night. Just give it time, my son was on the larger side and took longer than my daughter to sleep through the night. I know I always run into people who have babies who sleep through the night by 4 mths, but my children never did. They sleep great now though.

You mentioned he has a cold? Maybe its sinus drainage draining down his throat and he cant breathe? Just a thought. That happened to my Lilly and we took her to the pediatrician and she has an Ear Infection, she wasnt sleeping at night either, it worked and now she is back to her sleep schedule. Could be so many things, I dont know about the caffiene though,if you are BF I know a certain amt would go to the baby but I wouldnt think no more than you ingested it would be keeping him awake at night. Id call my doctor if i were u and see if they have any suggestions.
