Is there any chance that my doctor will let me be induced early?? im 35 weeks now but my due date is december 31st...i just dont want to take any chances and have to be in the hospital for the holidays...so what do you think my chances are of having him induce me maybe on the 20th? its really important that im home for the holidays .... Also....for those of you who were induced....what was your experience like??

I am in a situation kinda like yours in the sense that I am trying to decide on weather or not to get induced just under different circumstances than yours. I have to say having had both and all 3 without an epidural going into labor naturally is by far more comfortable although like mommysoon2bof3 said labor hurts regardless. The difference is that your contractions are more intense earlier on than when you go natural. My contractions at 6 cm felt like my contractions at 8/9 cm when I was induced so it was harder to stay focused and it hurt worse longer. If you are getting an epidural then as far as the pain is concerned it doesn't matter which route you go. Just remember that there are added risks of things like a c-section when getting induced, this is much less likely if you are already dilating. Also you are probably still going to be home for the Holiday if your due date isn't until the 31st. And if you aren't dilating and you get induced even if they start the induction on the 20th my Dr. told me it can take up to 72 hours for it to work. Which may still leave in the hospital on Christmas. Anyway just a few things to think about but ultimately it will be up to your Dr. and you. Some will do it others wont. If you are dilating and you are some distance from the hospital they may want to induce you anyway. Good luck!

Mommysoon2bof3 - 1173 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I was induced twice...and both labors were painful (Ladies...LABOR hurts! I don't think one way more than the other.) but very quick, 5 hours and then 4...I pushed twice my second one and my he was out. If you haven't had labor both ways it isn't fair to say being induced is more painful. Get an epidural and it will be a breeze! More enjoyable I'd say. ANYWAY I was induced on May 16 and wasn't due until May 22. I just kept asking my doctor every visit, and told her how uncomfortable I was and I am a very anxious person and anxiety was getting the best of me and I wasn't sleeping well. ( not like I've slept very well since having the baby either :) ) Still I am now due April 9th and hopefully will get induced then too. Not that I don't agree with you ladies who feel the baby will come when it is ready, I believe that but I don't think it is too selfish to be induced either. You have been growing the little thing in your belly all this time how selfish is that? Oh and I agree with Its Chelle...you may be better off waiting until after christmas anyway.. having a baby is very tiring alone and then learning who your new little one is and what they do at night is even more. I was a crabby mommy (especially the first two days home) and for about two weeks after both of mine until my hormones settled down and I got in the groove of things.

Its-Chelle - 1173 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) i would be shocked if there is a doc that would induce a bit early so you can be home for the holidays..you never know, you just might be home for the holidays,no telling when your baby will arrive..even if you have your baby just before that, youre gonna be pretty busy and tired from being a new mom..just hang in there and it will happen when its time..good luck and what a beautiful gift that would be having either a christmas or new yrs baby!!

happyforest - 1173 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) my doctor would not induce until after 40 weeks, but would not let anyone go past 41 weeks. unless there was a medical reason to do so. i know it is so hard to wait, but it is what is best for you and the baby. induction is not fun either. it takes longer than a natural birth and comes with more risks. any good doctor would not put you and your baby at risk unnecessarily.

*mom*of3 - 1173 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I was induced with my 1st, and it was a nightmare!! when i was induced, my dr. would not lwet me up to got o the bathroom or anyhting, i was given a 24 hour pill to soften my cervix, which was very pianful. then the next morning i was able to at least get a shower, but then they started inducing me with the patosin. that makes your contractions very fast, and very unreal. trust me, if anything i would not recommend this again to any of my friends.. you go from feeling good, to horrible like the snap of your fingers.. very unnatural feeling. I would suggest however, i would maybe ask your dr. to do what is called :stripping of the membranes" that works so much better. I had it done with my 2nd child, and it was great. since i was 2 weeks overdue with my 1st they didnt want me going that far overdue so about a week before my d.d my mid wife did this during my office visit. what it is, is the dr. does an exam with thier fingers, and actually takes their finger up at your cervix and seperates the bag of water from the membranes and then it makes you go into labor usually within 24 to 48 hours. the only thing is that you will ahve some slight bleeding, but i went on and did the normal things i had been doing, and by the next day i was in active labor, contraction every five mins, and had my daughter that day! that is what i feel would work out best! thanks!

jaydsmom - 1173 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I think a healthy baby would be more important than being home for the holidays. There are so many risks involved with being induced that early. I was induced at 39 weeks 1 day due to complications and OMG it hurt! Plus my body wasn't ready yet so I had 13 hours of active labour. I got the epi, but I was in active labour so long I could no longer feel it and did the last 5 hours without any meds. They were also scared I'd have to have an emergency c-section. If that happened to you, it would lay you up for the holidays anyway. This was baby #2 for me. My first child was only 7.5 hours total and was so much easier because my body was ready for it. I suggest you wait it out for the sake of your baby and your body. My family can't be around for the holidays, so we are doing xmas this weekend. Why not change the date you celebrate instead of the date you have your baby.

secondandexcited - 1173 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Wow...sorry for being rude, but that's kinda selfish! Your baby's health is what's most important, not being there to open gifts or hang out with friends on new years eve!

jessicadarling - 1173 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I think you should wait to go naturally. A lot of first time pregnancies go over due. I myself was 6 days overdue. I think you have every chance of going past Christmas. Probably after new years. I seriously don't think you want an induction. Going into labour naturally makes your labour progress and happen evenly. With inductions pitocin causes such irregular and unnaturally strong contractions that baby goes in distress and that is why most inductions end in a c-section. I assure you, you do not want a c-section. It is major surgery and recovery is twice as long than a normal vaginal birth. Hold on and let your baby choose his/her birthday. Don't choose it yourself for the sake of convenience

RobinG - 1173 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Sorry, I'm not a supported of inductions for the sake of convenience ~ and all hospitals I delivered at will not allow them before 7 days of your due date unless there is a medical reason. Right now whats most important is a healthy delivery and failed inductions can occur when your body isnt ready and your baby and your health are far more important then being home for the holidays ((()))

dawnispregz - 1173 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) i really doubt he will, the xmas holidays arent a good excuse really to be induced, and its nearly 2 weeks that you want to be induced by,not just a couple of days. You'll have to speak to your doctor to check obviously, but id be surprised. I wasnt induced but everyone i know that was has said that it was far more painful than natural labour, as the contractions come on a lot stronger and closer together so its like theres no build up and the body is kinda thrown into the deep end.
