i have a 4 week old baby. he is big (9lb 5 oz at birth) and wants to eat ALL THE TIME. he ate 2-3 oz ever 2-3 hours until last week. i would feed him 3 oz and as soon as i would get done he would want 2 or 3 more. he would do this for hours. i also nurse him sometimes. i stayed at my moms this weekend and she said to give him cereal. i was nervous at first but i let her because thats what she did for my brother and he is fine. well my baby was happy and actually slept and was full. so my questions are why do they say not to give formula before 4 months? has anyone given it before and did u have any problems? did it help anyone? thanks!

yummymummy1990 - 1164 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) i gave my sone baby rice at 10 weeks but not 4, 4 is too early x

yummymummy1990 - 1164 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) 4 weeks is far 2 young for solids put his feeds up 2 4-5oz. if u introduce him 2 solids to young it can influence childhood obesity, allergies and many more complications, ur babies digestive system is not mature enough. hope this helps x

kristalsfirst - 1164 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) you know your son better then anyone else does so do what you think is right. I gave my son cereal at 3 months by bottle cuz he always hungry too.... you know best =)

antsmom - 1164 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Babies are supposed to eat every 2 to 3 hours for the first couple of months. It is normal for you to increase the amount of nursing or formula you are giving them as they grow. I don't understand everybody's rush to add cereal. If my son was still hungry after he finished his bottle, I made him another 2 ozs. If he ate that and was still hungry, I made him 2 more 'till he was satisfied. There were also times when he wouldn't finish his bottle... just like you and I , some days they are hungrier than others... good luck.

modelimited - 1164 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) My first son was 7lbs at birth. Around 3 or 4 weeks he was eating ALL the time! I felt like I wasn't producing enough milk or that something was wrong. He'd eat and then just continue to cry until he fed again. My mother also suggested rice cereal. I mixed some in with the breast milk and he was sleeping through the night, full, at one month! He's 9yrs old today and doesn't have one allergy or one disability. He still has a pretty good appetite but isn't over weight. My opinion is, know YOUR baby and its needs. The rest is intuition!

Bienks - 1164 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Hi I started giving my boy cereal around 8 weeks, he is doing great my mom suggested it as he was drinking so much milk he is happy and healthy and started sleeping through the night at 12 weeks I give him once in the mornings around 9 and at night around 6. Everyone tells you that baby only needs formula till 6 months I personally don't believe that I feed him as I (and the doc) see fit and there is nothing wrong with that, dont let others tell you what your baby needs, if cereal makes him fuller and he's happy with it, go ahead !

baby2onboard - 1165 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) My sil had a very big big baby her dr recommended cereal early it depends on baby's size, family allergyhistory all king s of things don't worry too much

RobinG - 1165 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I'm with Cassandra ~ and what was once considered ok back when you were small isnt ok now for many reasons. I have always had big babies and they all ate 4-6 oz at 4 weeks, PLUS there is a growth spurt at that time and that usually means bigger feeds more often then they will slow down a bit and level off. I wouldnt give cereal, that is only recommended for reflux early on. If he is hungry I would make 4-5 oz bottles instead of 2-3. 2-3 oz is what my LO ate at 1-2 weeks not 4 weeks. (((hugs)))

moms the word - 1165 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Ask your doctor.

CassandraLee - 1165 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) You can find alot of information online as to why you shouldnt give a baby that young cereal. Another reason, in addition to allergies, is that their immature digestive systems can have trouble digesting cereal. My son was 10 lbs. 1 oz. at birth and I didnt give him cereal until 6 months. If he was hungry, I'd give him more breast milk/formula.

amber325 - 1165 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) They say to wait to 4-6 months b/c early use can lead to more allergies later in life. Also adding it to the bottles makes them have extra calories they dont need. They NEED the vitamins in the milk now not the empty filler calories in rice/ food.

muffintops - 1165 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) my daughter was 10lbs 6 oz at birth,so i know how hungry they are!!..id go see your doc or clinic nurse to double check that its okay to give him,im sure it is but least it will put ur mind at rest,i know when i got my daughter home from the hospital every 3 hours she was having 160 mls formula,i started mixing a tiny bit of rice cereal in it around 6 weeks, made her sleep great:D

msmillsap08 - 1165 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) My daughter has eaten rice ceral since birth. Its in her formula which was prescribed for he from birth and she slept through the night from age 3 months on. She is 5 months old now. She takes Enfamil AR Lipil (The AR stands for added rice). She started eating the rice from a spoon about a month ago though. As long as your baby can eat from a spoon and take it, I give it to her in one of those baby bottle feeders also. I know a lot of women here are not fans of feeding ceral from the bottle but I have. My daughter has a fericious appetite as well, but she was born 12 wks early so I figure she is just catching up on her growth. lol

AugustAlly2008 - 1165 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) i give my daughter rice cereal because she has acid reflux. No problems. she is almost 4 months and has been eating it since she was about 5 weeks old. didn't really help with her sleep but she didnt eat as many times as she was before.
