name traditions... Added: 1144 days ago. Added by: sweetnsmokin Section: General. Status: This question is Closed. (Questions will be closed after 10 days.)
how important do you think it is to follow tradition when naming your child? I mean did anyone get `skipped` in their naming tradition and how do you feel about it? I have 3 kids, and the tradition we have is to have all the girls names start with K. The boys are all named after grandfaters or emotionally important ppl we know. I dont know what im having yet, and its driving me crazy. I cant think of anything for either sex!!!! oh its driving me bonkers! All the girls names I really like dont start or even have the k sound in it. as for the boys i got both g-pa`s covered. so, whats the likelyhood of the child resenting its name because there were no traditions followed when all 3 siblings names were?

the worst part about it, is my grandmother, mom, me and my daughter are all k's. i think its a lovely tradition. im really the only stikler whos keeping it. my boys are dawson vincent (dawson and vincent directly) after his fater and grandfather, and rylee joel (roy lee and joel), after his father and grandfather. kayliana jean (kayleen, ariana and jean) is after my mom and hubbs mom. i thought i had it all figured out as after my 3rd i was told i would never have another.... ugh. my oldest asks why his name is diff than ours (he has a diff dad, but does not know it), and i just dont want this baby to feel left out name wise like my son. thanks for the advice. i appreciate it.

Wow, I used both "traditions" for naming our kids too (the "K" sound, but with the letter "C" - Candice, Colton and Caden)... for both of our sons, they were named after the Grand Fathers when it came to their middle names. Colton James (<- my father is James) and Caden Richard Allen (2 middle names because he's our definite last child and Richard is my husband's dad, and Allen is his dad's dad). Candice has 2 middle names as well, Candice Kimberly Margaret. My sisters name is Kimberly and my mothers name is Margaret. I think there is no greater honor for someone to have a baby named after them; however, I also see nothing wrong with just picking a name that you love. It was a total coincidence that all of our children have the K sounding names. I just felt they all sounded nice together. Who give a bleep what anyone thinks anyway? Just love the names you chose... and all the best. It's such a difficult thing to do.

I dont care for names all with same initial(s). I do like traditions where the middle or first name is after the dad or a family member :) Name her what YOU want not what the family feels is tradition UNLESS it is a tradition you WANT to follow as well :) Names that come to mind are Kayla, Kara, Kari, Kia (Ky A ~ not Key a), Kiera, Kadence, Karli, Kourtney, Kolleen....

u could name the child a variation of urs or ur husbands name. my daughter will be Cailena Marie. Lena was her great great grandmother, Marie is my mom, and Cailena means pure, like my name, katie. its also irish, like me :)

try thinking outside the box... like my husband want's a girls middle name to be Rose after his grandmother... Rose is too traditional for my taste but I'm liking the idea of rosalynn... it helps if you don't feel trapped into what you have... play alittle! good luck!!

well since you only have 1 girl i think that any girls name is definitely ok since the tradition isn't obvious the second girl won't feel left out. my husband and i are kind of going through the same thing
