I have to say that i would re-think waiting to 6 months. By 6 months they have more control over their hands and are more likely to pull them out or try to. You may want to either do it really early or do it later in life.

Like I said, I'm not against piercing in general and I also don't think it's the worst thing you could do by any means - as you say, she wont remember and the pain will be short lived. Just from the view point that your child is her own little person, would you not rather she CONSENTED to having holes put through her ears as opposed to having the decision taken out of her hands? Obviously she can take them out when she is older, but the holes are still there... Also, for me, there is a health and safety issues as children enjoy alot of rough and tumble.. While I'm sure you won't put great big, dangly loops in her ears, studs can also get caught on things.. It really is personal choice and I would never judge anybody who made the decision to do it - I was just trying to be objective I guess. If it came across as patronising then I apologise, as I'm sure it's a decision you haven't taken lightly and I'm sure you've put alot of thought into it...

in india boys get circumsized girls get their ears peirced, before they leave the hospital!! it's your choice there are even some people who say that it is worse to wait because babies pain sensors develop after they are born. so do what you want to and if other people don't like it it's not their baby.

I used to work at Claire's and it was a requirement that the baby had to be at least 3 months for us to pierce their ears.

I would talk to your ped about it. i know some ped's in my area will do that. I looked into after being on this site while pregnant. Someone else asked a similar question and i personally hadn't ever noticed or had known a baby with piereced years so i asked my ped. He said that he recommends waiting until after a certain shot, i can't remember which one. I have 2 boys and never put a lot of thought into it.

I can understand that in some cultures it is the norm for a child to have piercings, however in the western culture I'd say it's never acceptable to see a baby have their ears pierced!! A relation of mine had her daughters ears pierced when she was 6 months old and they went septic and it was HORRIBLE!

I completely disagree with ear piercing of babies and toddlers. I think it's much better if parents wait and ASK their child if they would like to be pierced. I'm not against piercing at all, I'm got 3 lip piercings and have previously had tongue and eyebrow pierced 'back in the day' and my ears are also pierced, but my parents only let me get it done after my sister and I badgered the hell out of them. It WILL hurt your baby and whilst it's not the worst thing you can do to a baby - in the grand scheme of things - it's certainly not a necessity.. All else failing, if you are absolutely INTENT on getting it done, the best thing you can do is make sure you go to reputeable piercing studio, even if tyou have to pay a little more. Though I do believe you'll find that the more reputable piercers tend to have age restriction on piercing children. And it goes without saying, make sure the ears lobes are looked after incredibly well afterwards, as even with the best cleanliness, infection can still set it and a baby doesn't have as strong of an immune system as we do and will suffer more I shouldn't doubt.

dont know i guess it depends on the policy of the piercer.make sure they are qualified etc etc. Not that i wanna be rude or anything but why would you wanna put any ornaments on your child? I hate ears pierced on babies/toddlers...........my opinion though.sorry if i was harsh
