Is it normal to have an irregular period after giving birth?

I had my daughter on October 1st 08, and bled for about 2-3 weeks after that then it stopped. November came around and I started my period the day after Thanksgiving. It`s now the very end of December and I have not started my period. I did have a little but of cramping 2 weeks ago.
