I too was only able to get paid through my short term disability policy at work. It provided 8 weeks of pay since I had a c-section.

Yeah. under the family leave act your work has to give you six weeks off without penalty but it never stipulates that it has to be paid so must places don't. It is highly recommended that it's paid leave but no one holds them accountable for it. Some states will offer assistance while on maternity leave but you'll have to go in and apply for it.

Each employer is different. I work for a big law firm and we get paid maternity leave we also get 3 months off. I will be taking about 4 months off to be with my baby and spend time with my son. You should look in to STD you should be able to get that. If i ready the law book right. If your company dont offer paid maternity leave then ypou should be able to get STD. You will need your doctor to fill out hte information and when you are due and send it in 45 days before you have the baby and you will get your check in two weeks. This is California law now. I don't know what state you live in. But I hope this helps.

Because I had a vaginal delivery I was only able to get paid through short term disability for the first 6 weeks and get unpaid FMLA for the other 6 weeks. It depends if your work offers short term disability and what type of delivery you have. I would call your HR and find out the policy. I am in the US by the way.

I was not able to get paid for my leave because I hadn't been at my job long enough. My husband also was able to take time off but without pay...

Like all the other posts states it really depends on your employer and where you live. I work for an insurance company and we get short term disability paid at how long we have been with the company.

Yep, it is common in the US NOT to get paid. if you have disability insurance then they will pay a portion, but many employers do not have a paid maternity leave benefit. I had to use 40 hours of vacation before my 6 weeks at 60% pay through my disability insurance kicked in. Needless to say, I HAD to go back to work after my 6 weeks was up. I could not afford only 60% of my income

i think it depends where you live. in Canada, providing you meet the criteria (worked enough hours in the previous year) you get a year of paid leave.

12 wks is regular FMLA but I live in TN and we get 16 here. Check your state guidelines. I am going to receive partial pay for 6 wks from my STD policy I have at work. If you have STD you should be able to get partial pay for the first 6 wks. Ask your HR rep.

The US does not have any any paid maternity leave issued my the government. Its based on the employer. You can take FMLA 12 weeks unpaid leave if your company falls under the guidelines.

In the UK we get up 52 weeks mat leave. 39 weeks is paid, I've been with my company nearly 4 years or so I get 6 weeks full pay, 12 weeks 90%, and 21 weeks stat mat leave which is £117 p/w. Not sure what the US is like.

Yes. Unless your company has disability insurance.
