I wanted Emily weaned AT one year from the bottle/pacifier. I started at 11 months offering small amounts of milk with dinner watered down. Then I offered milk in the oatmeal, then in a sippy cup. SMALL ammounts. literally like 1/4 of a cup. She is almost 1 year (9 days)and is off a bottle/pacifier, no formula and exclusively on cows milk/juice/water. Shes fine. Her gut didn't explode, she didn't die, no rash, no hard poopies. No tummy upsets, and this kid had some of the worst acid reflux when she was born.

I think it depends ~ there is a min # of oz a baby needs of breast milk or formula til 12 months. Just like a mom who offers juice with water prior to then it can be the same for cows milk. If you find in evaluating the milk you give is more then the necessary amount needed per day then it is def ok to offer it in the 11th month. I began by putting a couple oz of room temp milk in a sippy cup during lunch time. To see if they liked it and were able to digest it ok. I slowly transitioned in the 11th month so by 12 months I was on full cows milk. I was sure to never eliminate the required oz per day of formula when doing this. Breast milk or formula has many nutrients in it the baby needs til 12 months, cows milk doesnt offer these added nutrients. If you LO doesnt eat alot of solids it may be wiser to hold off since the transition to cows milk needs to also happen when you LO is getting the needed nutrients from solid foods. Hunter doesnt eat well from delay issues so I am sure to also offer pediasure a few times a week. If $ is not the concern I'd wait til 12 months but if it is and the added savings is important do as I did and offer it in addition to the formula or breast milk as long as the daily amount is being met. Hunter drank the 28 oz a day so the added oz were cows milk :) hope that makes sense ~

wait until first birthday. Then you can gradually add it with formula.
