My 7 week old HATES tummy time and cries the entire time. I know how important it is developmentally but I never know how long to force him to be in this position...How long does your little one stay on their tummy and what do you do to keep them motivated?

Tummy time is not just "on the floor on thier timmy" My son has therapists who come and tummy time was a huge issue and I learned that legit tummy time is when the chld is onthier tummy at ANY location ~ it can be on your tummy, on a boppy, you recline on couch baby on your tummy ~ any position where baby tries to lift head is legit tummy time :) A few minutes through out the day is fine initially then work up from there. What what your LO is ok witih, dont force it til your LO cries. Do more tummy time on your chest with you reclined :)

Toys.. Lots and Lots of toys. My daughter likes to be on her tummy. She really likes to be on her own, she is very independent and needs to be a lone like atleast two times a day. But yeah continue to do tummy time. It really helps them start crawling. Really important. I worked at a daycare and in that daycare they did quite an amount of time doing tummy time. It really helped them move up in there classes. Alot of babies hated it and cried. But really it was important. I think. I atleast put my daughter on her belly four times a day. Sometimes right after nap. Not so much after she eats unless she is burped really good. But i try to do it as much as i can.

I've never done tummy time... my first two hated it and I didn't force it....just haven't bothered with my third. Hold your baby so he can look over your shoulder; help him sit up; lay him on your chest and lean back a little....there are lots of ways to help him strengthen his muscles without plopping him belly down and having him cry.

Work up to 30 minutes. Start with one minute several times per day and definitely not when he is sleepy. Just keep doing it until you reach 30 minutes.

Do it twice a day for a few minutes to get him used to it. Try to do it when he is not tired...maybe like 30 min after he eats. They have to get used to it so ease him into it. It is very hard work for them to be on there tummies...so they wont like it at first.

my daughter is 4 months tomorrow and still not a huge fan of tummy time. if you can get in a few minutes a few times a day thats a really good start. i wouldnt force him to stay on his tummy if hes not happy. i talk to her and lay down with her, use toys and stuff to keep her interested and she likes it a lot more in the last month - month and a half. dont know if you know this either, but "tummy" time is actually considered any time they are working with their neck muscles and not laying on their backs. so holding them upright is good if he's strong enough for that. when my daughter was younger i found laying her on my chest to be the easiest way to get the tummy time in.

I had this problem too, even a couple minutes a day is helpful. I also used to lie my babies on my tummy and make faces and talk to them and then they were in the tummy position, but didn't notice.
