Are you bottle feeding breastmilk?? I am returning to work and was wondering how much of my milk my LO is going to need if he`s drinking it from a bottle...He will be 8 weeks this Friday and weighs about 14 lbs. I`m leaving him with my MIL while I work 4.5 hours. How much of my pumped milk should I leave her?

That way you can pump again and then you know how much you can freeze and save and how much you need to put in bottles. It varies from baby to baby and you don't want to leave too little. Then again you don't want to waste too much either

It is always hardest the first week when you have to try and be prepared. Once I had been working a few days, I started leaving a frozen bottle of about 3 oz. with my sitter just in case he was extra hungry or one was accidentally spilled. Good luck!

If you don't want to bottle feed your baby at home to 'test' like others have suggested then send your milk in 2 oz bags. that way they can use what they need and you won't waste any. Have them keep track of how much he will need per day/week.

antsmom - 1092 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I pumped a bunch of milk and then spent a day or two prior to my return to work just feeding my son the stored milk in a bottle. This allowed me to see how much he consumed in a day and how much I would need to send with him to day care. Good luck!

taketwo - 1092 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) At 8 weeks, my son was eating 6oz of breast milk every three hours, but he was a little piggy! I know how much because I had to pump and bottle feed him from the start (he would not latch). I'd say you'll be safe leaving 8 - 10 oz. Perhaps have a couple of test days before you go back to work to measure how much he's drinking and how often he'll need it from the bottle. Good luck!
