Hi everyone, I have a bit of a problem. I have been bellydancing for 5 years. I am now 11 weeks pregnant and wanting to carry on with it. I saw the doctor and she said I shouldn`t but she also admitted that she knew nothing about belly dancing. I`ve done my research and if im gentle, it may even have benefits. Opinions please? Thanks =)

RobinG - 1073 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Belly Dancing moves are AWESOME after ~ I've done a few and it helped tone :) Having done them I'd never consider doing it while pregnant ~ at least not the belly rolls! I'd rest and not do much with the tummy part but some moves are ok if you are careful since excersize is good for you, maybe wait til you are further along ~ BD is hard and it will pay off when you deliver and getting back an awesome tummy :) Its one of those things that why risk it? Belly Dancing isnt the same as regular excersize, it is alot more if jiggling this and rolling that. It is harder on the uterous so I'd use extreme caution and just avoid jiggling hips to fast or hard and avoid the belly roll.

But that the second I get tired, feel faint or hurt, to stop. Maybe slow it down a little, when you're a bit further on. Hell I'm still picking up 18kg 2 year olds and throwing them around :P and I'm 16 weeks. I did it with every child after my first. Your body just gets used to it. Just rest, drink plenty and try to eat right (with cravings that can be hard.) You'll even find that you'll "bounce" back from the birth easier as well. I know I did, I do pilates and tai chi. I stopped doing pilates towards the end of my pregnancies but tai chi, no way. It was heaven!

tassie-mum - 1074 days ago Thanks debra =), I don't know why my doctor told me not to, I don't have a complicated pregnancy. Thankyou for the advice it is very much appriciated

Debra - 1074 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) exercise is good for you. IF you start feeling dizzy or short of breath- stop and rest. If this was a new class or exercise you wanted to start, then it can be an issue- but since you are used to doing it, i doubt it will be a problem.

tassie-mum - 1074 days ago Thanks happyforest, that's exactely what I think =) Apparently it strengthens all the right muscles whilst keeping fitness.

happyforest - 1074 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) i was in a bellydancing class all throughout my first trimester. it was really great for me!! if you study the history of bellydancing, you will find that some theories say it was invented to help a womans body to prepare for pregnancy and delivery!!! it is really good for pregnant women
