Military Wives Added: 1070 days ago. Added by: mrsrheins Section: General. Status: This question is Closed. (Questions will be closed after 10 days.)
Can anyone who is in the airforce tell about your experience especially in regards to being a wife and mother? I am thinking about joining the airforce, I am 22, and I just want to get as much information about it as I can. I am mostly afraid of being sent off to combat and getting killed. Please give as much info as you can. Thanks.

I am thinking about a career within the office like clerical, human resource, accounting, or finances. That is where most of my experience is in and what I enjoy doing. Thank you guys for your help.

I have been in the Airforce for 3 1/2 years now and recently got married last May. We are having a little boy in about 9 weeks. I recommend the Air Force over any branch of service! The air force is more stuctured for women in my opinion. What job career field are you looking to go in to? Your job will also determine how and when you will deploy and for how long. Some jobs never deploy while other go overseas quite often. I just got back from overseas last may and they are trying to send me again the end of this year and i am going to be a first time mommy in May. The Air Force has changed a lot over the years and it is slowly making its way to being like the other branches as far as deployments, weight requirements ect.. which is turning a lot of people away. Many of my friends have gotten out. We use to deploy for a 4 month period but now its a manditory 6 months if you are tasked to deploy. Seriously think about it and do some online research and continue talking to people who have been in to get some advice. Take care

Well, I was a Marine for 12 years. I was a single mom for awhile, but I was sort of lucky in some of the duty stations I have had. I have a blindness disease that prevented me from going to combat and ended my career as a Marine. It won't be easy, but the support in the military is great. If it is something you want to do, just make sure you have a family readiness plan (what you will do with your children, who will take care of them if something does happen, stuff like that). Good luck.
