just try slowly and keep offering the spoon, its not recommended to put it in a bottle for many reasons although im sure it would be okay because many people do it. it took my daughter a few days before she figured out a spoon but it will come quickly if you keep trying.

LoL choking hazard. That's why newborns can do it (mine, for instance, at 3 weeks!). My God where do you people get this shit? Put the books and 'rules' down, use come common sense and stop freaking 'vamama' out. And if it's given commonly to newborn acid refulx babies...the biggest chokers and gaggers of all...I think 'vamama's' four month old can handle it.

cereal should never be put in a bottle unless it is to help with acid reflux. it is a choking hazzard bc the mucles corrdinating to mash and swallow solids are a totally different set than is used to swallow from a bottle. you baby needs practice with these muscles, and will get that practice from eating from a spoon. of course she wont be a pro at first and it will be messy, but she will get the hang of it soon

My God these people who say 'if she can't eat it from a spoon, put it away'...how the hell is she supposed to LEARN? Unless she's some prodigy, she's not going to see a spoon and know exactly what to do with it the first time around. I don't care how old or young she is, that's just illogical! Until the poor baby is given a chance to LEARN what the hell is going on (which apparently should be friggin instinct accoring to some of you people) you can give her some in a different form to at least get her used to the taste and consistency, instead of ripping it away because she's 'too stupid' to get it on try #1. She's not supposed to get it on try #1! My girls got it first in a bottle and it didn't defeat and friggin 'purpose'. They caught onto the spoon a week later! The 'purpose' was nutritional supplementation, which they needed becasue they were hungry on just milk. I didn't ruin anything by using this as an introduction. Keep it up, because at 4 months she is probably craving something more. You're a LOGICAL Mommy by doing what works and progressing later. She will get it :-)

Cereal is recommended for 4-6 months. It shouldnt be given in the bottle unless there is reflux and it is given to help treat it. Feeding cereal is to help teach them how to actually eat. So feeding cereal in the bottle defeats the purpose of giving it ~ some feed it anyhow in bottle hoping baby will sleep longer, none of my kids did so it isnt always the case. If your sweet baby cant eat from the spoon then she isnt ready, put it away and try again in a couple weeks :) (())

I have to laugh at your typo! A bowel is the part of your body where poop is made- a bowl is a dish. if you read it with bowel, it's just plain funny. As for the Q, try feeding it to her both ways- it takes a while to learn to eat off a spoon, but something she needs to know for solids later. My son is really easy to feed and we only fed him from a spoon- cause I nurse.

My girls are on rice cereal too. I put them on it much younger (3 weeks) so I HAD to introduce it via bottle. However, I used what is called an 'infant feeder bottle'. It is designed for introducing thick cereal and baby foods. To start, I made their cereal the consistancy of like Stage 1 baby food. You put it in the infant feeder and the nipple is much thicker and the hole is big (you can get infant feeders at Babies R Us). I did this for a couple weeks and gradually started spoon feeding. The rolling of the tounge motion is hard for little ones to pick up and they end up spitting a lot of it out. So to ensure she's getting it use the infant feeder for now and practice 2-3 times a day with the bowl and spoon til she gets it. I don't know how many times a day your doc told you to feed cereal to your baby but my girls (now 8 weeks old) get it 3 times a day. This is what I do. They get it when they wake up in the morning along with a 5-6oz bottle---"breakfast". Four hours later (noon-ish) they get another serving of cereal and another 5-6oz bottle--- "lunch". Four hours after that (4pm) they get a 6oz straight formula bottle, no cereal---"dinner". We do bath time at 7-7:30pm and they get their last feeding then. That feeding is another serving of cereal and a 5-6oz bottle---"bedtime snack". I make sure the cereal is a last feeding because that way I know they're really full for the night. Because of this schedule they sleep from 8:00pm til 8:00am and we start the whole process all over again lol. Hope this helped! If you have any more questions let me know!

They recommend not using feeder bottles. If your daughter won't eat the cereal, pack it away and try again at a later time. The issue with the feeder bottles is that it doesn't do anything to "teach" them about HOW to eat, as in the tongue movements. This can lead to them chocking on the thicker consistency of cereal. A 4 month old is fine exclusively formula or breast feeding. If your doctor is concerned about her iron (biggest reason docs "prescribe" rice cereal) ask him to suggest other ways of supplementing, such as oral drops. The entire first year of life, don't worry about how much food your kiddo is getting: it's about the learning, not the calories. A great book I picked up at my library and ended up buying one I liked it so much... is Super Baby Food. Great read!
