I've read it is actually more common for you to need the doctors assistance in breaking the water bag than for it to happen on its own. With my first pregnancy I was sitting at home watching football with my husband and a friend of ours. Suddenly I felt like I peed myself. There was a short burst of wetness. Since it wasn't a lot of liquid, I didn't think it could be my water. I went to the bathroom and tried to clean up. When I stood up from sitting on the toilet, more water came out. That time I knew I didn't pee myself. I didn't feel anything though. I went to my bedroom and stood over a towel to watch the last 5 minutes of the game. My husband thought I was crazy and got all nervous thinking we should call the doc. I wasn't having any contraction though so I told him we could call after the game. My son was born 18 hours later. Good luck!

I was induced and the doctor broke my water with all 3 of my boys. all of myother pregnancies ended in miscarriage and I never noticed anything as far as water was concerned....It would have been a very small amount because they were all so early, anyhow. yeah, the doctor broke it with all 3 of my term pregnancies

1st born: My water broke at home. I thought I had to go to pee and sat on the toilet and hadn't peed but water was dripping and continued to run down my legs when I stood up. But, I had no contractions until they started pitocin. With my 2nd and 3rd babies, the doctor broke my water at the hospital.

3 different ways for me! First baby: They broke my water when I was 4 cm and had been in labor for about 4 hours. Second baby: In labor for 10 hours and then my water broke on its own in the hospital. Third baby: Woke up in the middle of the night and heard a popping sound. Got up and water was running down my leg (maybe TMI) and then contractions started about 15 minutes later and he was born 3 hours later. It is weird that all 3 of my sons happened a different way.

By the time I got to the hospital I was 6 cm dilated. I had an epidural and slept for a few hours. When I woke up the doctor checked me at which point I asked her if my water had broken yet. She said no and then proceeded to break it. Delivery followed this very quickly.

With my first I had a slow leak, I was not sure if it was my water or not. It burst when the doctor did the exam at the hospital. I had slow build up of contractions. With my second I had a burst when my water broke. I had contractions from right then and got strong pretty fast.

Mine broke 24 hours into a drug free labour. It was still another 4 hours before my bubs was born. It was during an extra brutal contraction Weirdest feeling ever!

I was tired and felt sluggish all day. I went to bed at 10 PM and I just layed down on my bed and my waters broke. My eyes opened up very wide and I was like "uh oh". I did not feel any contractions until about two hours later and mind you I was only 2 cm dialated. I was thinking wow this is a piece of cake on my way to the hospital....but that probably won't happen the next time around.

I was 39/4 weeks and JUST got off the phone with my doctor at 3am because I was having contractions. I sat on the bed to put on my socks and actually heard it break. Talk about a mess!

I had a slow leak...didn't really BURST! But water came trickling out every time I moved around. Went to the hospital and doctors ruptured the rest of my water

I was 2 weeks over due with my first when my waters broke. It was 05.50am and I woke up thinking I had to go to the bathroom...I nearly made it haha. I got to the door and....thought I'd wet myself...took me a few moments to figure out I didn't, mainly because it was still coming. It wasn't like a big gush or anything, and not all at once. My waters were constantly coming out in trickles for the next 24 hours. I started having pains about an hour after they broke. Nothing too serious, just enough to let me know things were progressing. It still took a further 32 hours for baby to arrive! On my second, I'd been in slow, agonising labour since friday evening, and when I finally went into hospital monday morning, at 2cm dialated, they broke my waters, baby showing up 69 hours from the time of my first contraction. I'm hoping this time things go a little quicker!!

I was told that most of the time your water breaks once your in labor, or the doctors usually end up breaking your water. I mean there are some cases where your water will break, but it's not like in the movies...where their waters break and then their dying in pain from the contractions. It's from the baby descending in the birth canal and putting pressure on the bag of water and that's when it breaks....I was told in lamaze that normally the doctor ends up breaking your water.... :)

Only 15% of women have spontaneous rupture of the membranes before the onset of labour.. :] Most women's waters are broken for them, or they break once the woman already knows she's in labour and is having regular contractions :]
