Should I buy a bigger bassinet? Added: 1042 days ago. Added by: Heaven Section: General. Status: This question is Closed. (Questions will be closed after 10 days.)
My daughter is now 5 months old and is about 26 inches long, if not longer and she has been sleeping thru the night in a bassinet next to our bed. Well now she is too long for the bassinet and I don`t know if I should buy her a bigger/longer one or have her cry it out in her crib in her own room. I am thinking of just buying a bigger bassinet so I can evenutally turn it into a play pen but hubby thinks she should use the brand new crib and bedding we bought her when she was born? what do you think?

I think it is time to move her to her own room. We moved our little one at 8weeks at the suggestion of our Dr. He didn't seem to mind, I think he actually sleeps better alone in his room than ours.

I wouldn't waste money on another bassinett. My son moved from his bassinett into his crib at 11 weeks. The transition will probably be harder on you than on your baby. I had a really hard time sleeping for the first two weeks that he wasn't in my room anymore. Good luck!

its about time that she should go in her cot. my lo was in his cot about 2 mths old, i was really lucky- he slept thru the night straight away in his cot. took a bit longer to get him to cleep but when he was gone he slept thru.

It's way past crib time mommy!! My son was in his own room in his crib when he was 7 weeks old...I couldn't imagine doing it any other way.....she'll get used to it, don't worry, just make sure you have a moniter in there with her so you can hear her! :)

I would say the crib only because she is going to have to sleep in her room eventually and the longer you put it off the harder it could get for both of you! I moved my daughter out of her basinette and into her crib when she was 4 months old and I was so scared about it...butit was suprisingly easy and she adjusted well. But some babies don't do so great for the first week. But you have to be persistent. Don't let her cry it out, check on her every couple minutes or so, this way she knows you're still there. Maybe you could even sleep on the floor by the crib for the first night or two if you are especially nervous. But it's better to do it now than later sweetie!

1st off, dont let her "cry it out", thats not the nice thing to do. babies need to have their needs met when they cry...2nd, im having this same trouble! my 6 month old sleeps in a cradle next to me and she is about ready to outgrow it! im not ready for her to move to her room yet! i think im gonna put the pack n play in the room so she can stay close to me!

I moved my son into his own room and crib at 6 weeks. My husband couldn't stand having him in our room anymore! He cried for the first 2 nights, but after that he was just fine. I had always put him in his crib for nap time, so he was already used to being by himself and in his own room so it might help to try her out in the crib for nap time first.

Yeah, put her in her crib. She might not even mind the transition. My son never cried in his crib in his own room. When we went on vacation he slept in the pack and play just fine. She might not even know the difference! But then if she is one of those babies that have a harder time, you can try just doing her naps in the crib and use a pack and play in your room.

I moved my son into his crib in my room at 3 months. This way he has gotten used to his crib, so when we move him to his own room next month he will not have that adjustment period. He is 5 months old also. I have talked to quite a few sleep professionals who recommend baby to be in the parents room to 6 months anyway (he has not slept in our bed, though, just our room).

I would try the crib, bassinets have a certain weight limit, she may be too big for one now. You can also put her in a pack and play in your room, if you have one of those. Good Luck :)

Yea 5 months is too old for a bassinet, for safety reasons. Plus she really does need to learn how to fair in her own space and soothe herself.

I moved my son to the crib in his own room at about 4-5 months when he out grew the bassinet (which I also kept next to my bed). I think he really loved having lots more room!!

No she should be sleeping in her crib soon. She is going to be able to sit and start pulling herself up and you dont want her to fall out in the middle of the night. Better to get her used to the crib now then later on, when the crying gets even louder. I have a 5 month old who slept threw the nights in his cradle then as soon as we moved him into the crib he stop. He was 3months when we did. But he is getting better and now he sleeps threw the night everyother night oddly!!!

i'd try to move her now. Unless you have plans to have her sleep in your room for a while yet, I believe it to be better to get them used to how you want them to sleep for the rest of their life as early as possible. Do you think she'd cry in her crib? do you let her nap in her own room already? that might be a good starting point. We transitioned our son out of our room at 5 months by having him nap in his own crib with the sheets and bedding we used from his bassinet for about 1-2 weeks. Then moved him into his room for night sleeps. He prefered it right away than waking up to our alarms and my husbands loud snoring. And i guess from a safety point, once she starts moving around- which will be soon- that bassinet won't be safe much longer.

can you just move the crib into your room so that she is still next to you?
