He is about 16 months old now and cannot help himself from gagging and puking every time something with texture touches his mouth. Come to find out, his father had the same issues...genetical??? Who knows. This little one can't even handle Stage 3 baby foods. However, he can do the Gerber 'Puffs' (the freeze dried food) so maybe try those as an introduction. If your baby can handle Stage 3 baby foods then I'm sure he can do actual broken up food (it's like the exact same concept). Maybe try REALLY tiny foods like cous cous, but try cooking it in chicken broth. I also like Goonie's idea of always putting him at the table with you. The power of suggestion can be fierce! Keep at him everyday though. Always make the offer even if he turns you down.

GoonieMomma - 1038 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Sounds like this is a new behavior? He used to eat solids and now he pukes? If so, give your doc a call... maybe something is lodged in his throat?? But if he's always been like this: don't fret! Babes are fine on formula or breastmilk for the first year. Back off and try again next week. All babies progress at their own rates, so go along with his temperment. He could also be teething... some babes want to chew on stuff and some just refuse to put anything in there out of fear of making the pain worse. Eating solids, before age 1, is about learning, NOT nutrition! Sit him on your lap while you eat dinner. Always have some baby-friendly part to your dinner (steamed carrots you can quickly mash, mashed potatoes, etc) and if he starts opening his mouth, smacking his lips, grabbing for your utensils, offer him a small bite. Being "big" like mommy may be all he encouragement he needs! Keep me posted! ~love, Goonie
